How about combining this board with the News and Discussion board? It would cut down on duplicity as well as making navigating easier.

NO, please do not change the forum’s News / Discussion framework. Several good and necessary forum changes in recent weeks that clearly defined topic organization have greatly facilitated access to the growing number of topics, which will only grow exponentially if anything awful happens with the flu virus's evolution. One of the most important functions of public message forums such as this is to be able to quickly locate the information one needs. IMO this forum does a great job at providing access to information and this is the reason I visit the site regularly to keep up with the latest developments. The key to any forum providing both news on an issue and the ability for people to discuss the news, and vent, is to provide ready access to, first, the news. This forum provides easy access to the latest information readily by having both a news and a discussion forum, and I should add, by what appears to be a cadre of folks nicely and constantly posting the latest news issues, in the NEWS forum. Frankly, this may be one of the reasons for the site’s recent rapid growth in registered posters. Actually, you should put the NEWS forum FIRST as that is where people need to look for news on this issue – think of it as your "Front Page". They will then look for other topics of interest. Please do NOT mix NEWS with general discussion, one will not be able to locate anything important without needless searching. FWIW, I, for one, will have to look elsewhere for my H5N1 news, and discussion issues if the forums are merged. Edit: the search requests in this thread are sound, also a feature to default to last posted/descending would be nice. Edited by Flubird |

IMO I like as it is, you post news on the one site and then you can discuss all it on this site. When I need to be away and come back to see what's happened I look at the news site first. It gives us a quick up to date. Edited by siameselade |

I like it how it is too. I don't think I could handle any more change! :>{ I'm beyond stressed at this point. |

Europe, Australia and North America also have their own dedicated forums. These additional forums should handle the future overflow.

FYI: You can jump to the last post.... that's how I do it. Go to the rightmost of your screen and click on the arrow, this jumps you to the last post. Then I scroll up to the point where I need to. Much easier and faster than scrolling down from the top on some of our longer threads. It is hard to find posts, I loose mine all the time too. I also travel all over this forum, every night and on the weekend and it always amazes me that I have found a thread that is two days old that I didn't know was there.... I just stumble onto it. But this is the forum that Admin gave us, so I just do the best that I can with what we have. But PLEASE continue to make suggestions! Most things we can address and implement if it's for the betterment of the forum. Admin is very open to our wants and wishes. Don't worry, we won't combine News & BF discussion again.... we just split it out and I must say I love the new format! And I'm beginning to think that Rick has some clones that he presses into service to keep us so on top of everything. I tip my hat to you Rick! Your efforts on our behalf are greatly appreciated. |

Ok ... Now if we can just get posters to post news in one and discuss in the other - not both in both - I think we'll be ok. The problem is someone posts news and others want to discuss it. While others discuss and then post news in reference. They just seem to run together and overlap imho. BTW, it's only the first two boards that I'm talking about. Time is of the essence. |

How about an OT button which would take the off topic conversation to an area with the title of the original post but with an OT attached. Did that make sense? I'n not a techy. -K |

I just gotta say that I'm so impressed with this group. I've been on other forums and something like changing the way a thread is laid out would have turned into a nasty name calling argument. Your behavior has given me hope. I used to think that in stressful times people got ugly just because they were stressed. What a load of ......! I'm so glad I found such a good hearted group. I'll sleep better now.

How about a button for you people that cant agree (what you going to do in
the H2H) to self-destruct (in a kind and harmless way of course). Just get on with what there is. That's how H2H will affect you all. Making do with WHAT IS. Appologies for shouting peace as always |

StormriderFla, It's interesting that you mention the O.T feature. Have you ever heard of a forum called RB ? |

Hi Albert, No I haven't heard of RB. I'm really new to forums. I have taught an on line Org Comm college course but that is the limit of forums. It sounds interesting can you give me more details? -K |

Stormrider, I thought it was you that mentioned that you heard about this forum from a stock trader website. RB stands for Ragingbull.com, which is a stock trading forum with an O.T feature. |

Maybe we can have a thread or a forum or a button or whateveryoucallit, Bird Flu News for Dummies I could really use that. It is too much for me phyisiologically and definately psychologically to go through 10 or 12 heavy news articles everyday and try to decifer what they are actually saying determine if I'm supposed to be springing into a higher gear (even though I think I'm pretty darn close to max threshold right now). For me to even try to go through so much (sometimes repetative) information is almost emotionally paralyzing. I do want to say that I am extremely grateful for the people doing the research that I'm incapable of doing and now having difficulty reading, processing, decifering, digesting and utilizing. There's alot of people, I think, like me out there, I think. I almost had a full blown panic attack at Costco the other day and it's beenseveral years since I've experienced that. I very much want to be informed but I don't know how much longer I can keep it together at this stress level if I have to process so much negative information every day. Maybe our own code level system that a few of the senior members can be in charge of monitoring. ? Sorry to be so long winded but I am not handlig the stress well this week. |
