it would likely be Thanksgiving before the most vulnerable, high priority populations are completely vaccinated against the H1N1 or swine flu virus.
............................................................

School kids will be ill well before that.

They are not testing for flu, unless people need to be hospitalized... and that is uncommon.

We went to the Doc... he told us we have a virus... we had it for 3 weeks.
If it was by any chance ... swine flu, which has been fairly widespread in New York State,
where I'm writing from :)  ...  the worst thing about it was   the length of the illness.

We had mega hoarse throat/voice, aches, mild headache. Extreme repeat...extreme

tirdeness.  very stuffed head and ears...dizzyness, nausea that came and went due to the

inner ear stuffies. body aches... one day both my arms ached a lot...then it went away...

hits diff places....not extreme.  pressure in back... pain in neck is good to report to doctor.

I used warm rice pck wrapped in wrung out hand towel...repeatedly over a few days...

on my lower back.

I mention this in case it is of any benefit to others.  Steam is so important... we used a lot

of vicks and steam... adults can take two showers a day morn and night.  very helpful.

Caffine drinks helped with headache, we took dramamine for nausea/dizzy and then we

could feel like we wanted to eat.

I put  1 1/2 - tablespoons of elderberry and some honey in waterbottles... put in fridge.

When our chests felt heavy I also added pleurisy extract (h. food store)  3 droppers

twice a day (adults here) .  You need to ask your doctor about dosage especially for

children and in case there is any drug interaction with other meds you take. also ake your

druggist I always ask... i tell what I am already taking...and what I want to take.

Warm soup is wonderful as it helps break things up.  You will need cough drops...I liked

ricola/ honey... and ludens cherry... and if the throat is very sore... and it is difficult to

swallow... ask this...Is it hard to swallow?  does it feel funny when you swallow?

Time for Fishermans Friend cough drops .... get it ahead of time... it wasa lifesaver for me :)

coughing is good as it gets the mucus off the throat ...off the vocal cords... after the

fishermans friend and some coughing my throat was much better.

Vicks at night helped keep coughing to a lesser degree and helped to sleep...

get a vaporizer now.  Make sure the child can not reach it from the bed or get anywhere

near the cord.

Warm drinks ...peppermint tea etc... and warm soup was wonderful / helpful.

The biggest thing to remember...do not go back to work or school too soon.

this flu is not a short flu... kinda hangs on... for us anyway.... did I say we had a flu?   :)

(Doc said we had a virus...)

with the ..   3 wk  virus  we had...  stuffed up head and ears... we had dizzyness, nausea,
it did mess with our balance... at night I had a light on in the hall and bathroom because we were unsteady at times.  The nausea woozy stomach feeling took away our appetite.
and the dramamine really helped all that .  Ask Doc's about giving it to children.  They can't go a week without eating.  We had slight earache and used the warm rice packs on ears.  Kids may be harder hit than adults in this stuffed up head and ears achy thing, tubes very tiny.

we would not want Tamiflu... but I want moms to know the unsteadyness while walking, nausea,, unable to eat... is something to look out for even without tamiflu.

.................
