Hello again, i have been reading these forums since the h5n1 outbreaks.

Now the h1n1a virus seems to have taken a hold on the world.

I live in denmark, and the news are suddenly telling alot more about this again, its been very still for a long time, news wise.

100.000 infectet in norway, 15 dead
100 dead in ukraine
all over europe many dead and many many infected, long lines at vaccines, tamiflu can be bought as normal drugs at pharmacy now.
No note from doctor needed anymore.
Masks are running out.

I need to know from you, what action is needed from me ?

I have tamiflu and masks, but how will i know when to start wearing mask in public.
How will i know when to take tamiflu ?
Should i get the vaccine now ?

I am very confused and i need your help please !

I am very aware about hand washing when getting back from shopping and so on.
I stay away from crowds and hold my breath when walking past many people in public.

I feel paranoid, but i know enough to take this serious, many of the people i know dont think its any different than the normal flu, and the news and health organisations here still refer to it as swineflu... dont they know anything ? The also say they will only be vaccinating the weak. WHY ??? its the ones with strong immune systems that might die from cytokine storms , right ?

Please respond !

hi... to feel better ask yourself a few questions...

Will I feel better If I am vaccinated?

Do I have an underlying condition?    Am I a member of a Native Population?

Asthma
pregnant
Obese
under age 2
cronic heart condition
cronic disease
no spleen

Remember even if you do have an underlying condition/native member

as above

only a....  very small number....   of those people get severely ill...

so you may now begin to see that people dying are highly publisized... it does sell

News right?  and makes a lot of people rich selling stuff to 'combat it' kind of like

the gold rush fever...  a lot of money made selling to them.

People should not panic... I'd get some cherry and grape juices or Elderberry and a lot of

tissues and cough drops and a thermometer...  drink a lot of warm teas (herbal) and

broth soups.  Use warm heat on achy parts and take fever reducer (no asprin)

call the doctor if you are really worried.    Tamiflu helps some I hear.  We did not have

Tamiflu.  We were ill in New York State... for 3 weeks.   We are alive and well.

If you have any dizzyness ask the Doc what you can take...some have it some don't.

We took Dramamine and Mucinex for it.  We also used steam with 3 drops of tea tree

oil  ... do you have a vaporizor? (for steam)

You will feel better if you gather up all your flu remedies ahead of time.

Then you can put your mind to other fun plans.

We can't get Tamiflu in the drugstores here...

not much panic here...  pie baking... cider drinking... wood piling...

more info...

Immunocompromised persons may have a reduced immune response to Influenza A

(H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccine.

That means... If you had your spleen removed or ar otherwised deemed

immunocompromised by your Doctor... you may have a reduced immune response

to the (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccine.
(Novartis)

So ... discuss with your Doctor ... other ways you can protect yourself.

Could Swine Flu Panic Be Worse Than Outbreak Itself?
.......................................................................................

TUESDAY, Sept. 22 (HealthDay News) -- With all the warnings and preparations, dire

predictions and hastily ordered vaccines, could the growing worry about H1N1 swine flu

prove more disruptive than the actual outbreak?

That notion is weighing on the minds of more than a few infectious-disease experts as the

fall and winter flu season looms.

Not only does societal panic not help during a public health situation, such as the current

H1N1 flu pandemic, it can actually backfire, creating its own set of problems, the experts said.

NEO, calm down first of all. H1N1 can be a bad virus but for many it is mild or like having seasonal flu.

To answer your questions in order:

1. Wearing of masks. That is a personal choice but H1N1 is IMHO not deadly enough to wear a mask in public. Now that being said I would wear a mask on an Airplane.   I shop late at night and use hand sanitizer as soon as I get into my car. I use sanitizing wipes on the grocery cart...I bring my own in case there are none. I do not wear a mask and I work in an elementary school where H!N! is running rampant right now.

2. That being said...I have Tamiflu at home to take if I get H1N1. My son had H1N1 and how I determined how he had H1N1 was to see what his symptoms were in 3 hours of fist feeling ill. He had some of the classic flu symptoms: Suddenly feeling ill, headache, cough, stuffy nose, chills and within 3 hours of being home a 104 degree temp (he had no temp relievers because I wanted to see how high his temp would get) and he just felt really ill.

Please look at the CDC site it lists all the symptoms. You may not have all the symptoms especially the fever. But if you have at least 3-4 of these symptoms...TAKE TAMIFUL! Tamiflu can only be purchased in the United States with a script from a doctor...you are lucky you can get it over the counter!!

3. About getting the vaccine...that is a personal choice. But a lady I work with said today, "I will get the vaccine as soon as I can." She had the H1N1 and was really sick and she does not want to chance getting it again. As for me I will most likely get it when it is offer to my age group. I have no "problems" so I will be in the get it later group like Feb or Mar.

There is no rhyme or reason as to who gets really so sick they go to hospital. We have some in Colorado who are very strong people and are on vents and have no underlying conditions. They are also finding that many old are getting really sick still no reason.

Do not live in fear, know the symptoms, and if you get it start on Tamiflu and if you get worse then go to the doctor. You will be just fine. This opinion comes from a Mom.

If your like me and had a Full body CT scan you'll find most of the population has some type of underling medical condition without even knowing it. The new Brilliance iCT, a 256-Slice CT from Philips and a good CT tech will find something wrong with just about anyone. It's amazing the detail that these can show in 3D. The problem is walking in healthy and then walking out with 3-5 defects that you didn't even know about. Depending on the person, some things are best left unknown. Its like telling the future years in advance.

Entropy sucks Tech! Maybe the Soviets had it right when diagnosing cancer for the common folk? Your fine comrade, now go home and have a smoke and have a shot of vodka, and you will live a long and prosperous life in the motherland! The mind can play some pretty nasty tricks on the body, so my advice, live life, have a drink, laugh, love and have lots of fun between the sheets with the spouse.

Mrmouse, I never smoked and I'm not into hard liquor but I do get your point. The CT didn't bother me at all. They did find a few things I didn't even know existed. I did a triathlon two weeks after the test. I point was many people getting a full body scan will harp on the things that are found instead of enjoying life like you said. I remember a time when doctors withheld information from patients as some people can't handle the truth. Soon they will be predicting your death but would you want to know it?

People get full body scans as preventive medicine. You take a calculated risk because you're getting a dose of radiation but you might spot something early before it kills you. You can see future problems that you're not yet aware of yet. Like arterial blockage, cancer, bone density or bone loss. tumors, kidney stones, lung damage, aneurysms, colon polyps, thrombosis, liver problems, herniated discs and endless other things.

Some things if caught early can be treated.

I had mine done here for $750. Try that in an Emergency Room and is might cost 10 times that for a limited low resolution scan of just one area.

MRI is still exceptional.

If you are looking at a standard x-ray image or radiograph (such as a chest x-ray), it appears as if you are looking through the body. CT and MRI are similar to each other, but provide a different view of the body than an x-ray does. CT and MRI produce cross-sectional images that appear to open the body up, allowing the doctor to look at it from the inside. MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce images, while CT uses x-rays to produce images. Plain x-rays are an inexpensive, quick exam and are accurate at diagnosing things such as pneumonia, arthritis, and fractures. CT and MRI better evaluate soft tissues such as the brain, liver, and abdominal organs, as well as look for subtle abnormalities that may not be apparent on regular x-rays.

If you want an accurate picture, then the MRI is what you should have because it gives a 3D view of the body at all angles.

Personally I have had about 12 Cats and 2 MRIs. Actually working with the equipment on MRIs they are amazing in terms of detail. CATS are rather primitive- if merely a series where MRI can give you a real time image which can be interfaced to a computer and then with diagnostic identity software - could do a great deal.

As far as prepping and the whole Pandemic thing- it can be much simplified. You are more in danger from a heart attack, an auto wreck, cancer, or a stroke than dying from the flu.

Store extra food, water, medicine. Get a good first aid manual and kit. Figure out a fuel source, heating source, way to cook, and make a toilet of some kind (5 gallon container and a plastic bag) and remember your mental state is nearly as important as your physical state in dealing with the flu.

Heck, my husband had Pancreatic Cancer...so a full body scan would have maybe told him sooner that he was going to die. Big Deal! Same thing for my dad with lung cancer they got it when it was the size of a quarter...took him 2 years to die.

After all this would I get a full body scan...NO! I get a mamogram every year and a man should get a PSA test every year but the rest is really too much exposure to x - rays. IMHO

Med let people see the entire picture. MRI's are very expensive, take 15-60 minutes to perform, they are good on soft tissue but do "very poorly" on bones. CT scans are much better on bones, take much less time and cost much less. Money is factor here. While the older CT scans that are in outdated hospitals were very primitive. The newest ones have amazing detail and every year or two the resolution doubles. The Radiation dosage is still a big negative but is decreasing with each generation of machine.

Here is a 3000 Year old Mummy "Still incased In a Coffin" scanned by a 256 Slice CT

This is a "Low Resolution" 256 Slice CT the High Res is to big to fit on our monitors.
