During the week ending December 14, 2013 the Flu epidemic in New York was widespread. The cases increased 54% from the previous week. This can be referenced in a PDF found here --
http://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/influenza/surveillance/2013-2014/flu_report_current_week.pdf It has doubled in a week. Since this was based on only 284 lab confirmed specimens, it is really impossible to know how many people in New York currently have the flu. |

Actually NY State just posted the 12/21 report two minutes ago, though the link you give will now work for this as well, only add another 100% increase, all H1N1 ratio to influenza B of at least 34 to 1! Combine this where I live in New York, with a doubling of cases just reported for the state of Alaska also. Things are sudenly getting tough all over! John L.

Is the disease severe? Or mainly mild cases like back in 2009?

Significant but not unusual hospitalisations here in New York, not like Texas for intensity level either as yet-but we may be about to catch up. John L.

Check for the warning signs. New York State
Department of Health is reporting a widespread level of flu activity in
the last week, with influenza being reported in 45 counties plus New
York City. According to the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control,
there has been 560 laboratory-confirmed influenza reports during the
week ending December 21st. That is a 99 percent increase over the last
week. Please verify. |

The hospitalizations from flu in the Denver, CO area have risen dramatically over the past 2 weeks. Also, 96.5% of the cases are H1N1 and 3.5% of cases are H3.

NEW YORK STATE TODAY 1/2/14 POSTED ANOTHER DOUBLING OF CASES for the past week. We have been geographically widespread for three weeks, but with little intensity-until now.
Best to all, John L.
