Case study from New England Journal of Medicine.

Transmission of 2019-nCoV Infection from an Asymptomatic Contact in Germany

This case of 2019-nCoV infection was diagnosed in Germany and transmitted outside of Asia. However, it is notable that the infection appears to have been transmitted during the incubation period of the index patient, in whom the illness was brief and nonspecific.3

The fact that asymptomatic persons are potential sources of 2019-nCoV infection may warrant a reassessment of transmission dynamics of the current outbreak. In this context, the detection of 2019-nCoV and a high sputum viral load in a convalescent patient (Patient 1) arouse concern about prolonged shedding of 2019-nCoV after recovery.

So the patient recovered and was still shedding the virus and infectious.

Guaranteed?   No, quite wrong.

Just possible?   Yes.

Actually there is a study of 2019nCoV which shows there were 4 novel inserts closely related to HIV to the spike glycoprotein that are not present in any other coronavirus. The findings call that an unconventional evolution???????

The last paragraph of the conclusion sums it up rather nicely.

I believe the patient remains in isolation quarantined.

I am already starting to regret it. It's here in my county. With the infectiousness, one must assume there are others not yet officially recognized. Remember the math.

Went to CostCo yesterday. I wasn't the only person wearing a mask. A dozen others.

One woman has stocked her cart with 10,000 nitrile gloves, I assume for shipping back to China.

I have a nephew, teaching in Shanghai, now essentially stranded with flights out cancelled. No mask. I am praying for him - couldn't reach him in time.

Denial is such a powerful emotion people conflate hope with facts.

10,000 gloves?!?! Whether they are sending them to China or planning to play the gamble and resell on eBay or Amazon...that leaves a lot of unprotected hands in your area!

Actually, now that I think about it, it was probably 20,000.

The boxes come like 2,000 to the double-pack, and she had about 10 in her cart. I bought one box.

I was buying things like Tylenol, black elderberry, etc. Like China, I must assume our healthcare system will be quickly overwhelmed.

I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription and did some fresh produce shopping today. I go to a small privately owned pharmacy and I found the pharmacist had put a small bottle of hand sanitizer in with my prescription when I got home. I also noticed the pharmacy was completely out of bottles of hand santizer, Mucinex and Sambucol. So glad I bought it last week!

Shoppers were awfully thin for a Saturday afternoon on 5th venue and 86th Street (main shopping drags in my area). I wasn't wearing a mask but I noticed large pump bottles of hand sanitize at every register at the market. There were some people wearing masks, but only Asians. It was pretty disconcerting.
