Indian state declares emergency after third confirmed coronavirus case share Three Indian students returning from Wuhan in China have all tested positive for the coronavirus Three Indian students returning from Wuhan in China have all tested positive for the coronavirus CREDIT: AP/AP Joe Wallen, New Delhi 3 FEBRUARY 2020 • 6:47 PM An emergency has been declared in the southern state of Kerala after it was confirmed on Monday that a third person had contracted China's deadly coronavirus. All three confirmed cases in India have so far been detected in students returning home to the state from the Chinese city of Wuhan. At least 2,000 other Indians have now been quarantined across the country in hospitals or in their homes after displaying symptoms of the virus. Kerala's Government described the outbreak as a “state calamity” and said it would implement strict measures to stop the virus spreading further. All three patients are said to be in a stable condition and are receiving treatment in the Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kasaragod districts. Coronaviruses are found in animals but they can also mutate to infect humans. This novel coronavirus – dubbed 2019-nCoV by health experts – is thought to have originated at a seafood market in Wuhan where wildlife is also traded. It has since spread person-to-person throughout China and to more than 20 countries internationally. The United Kingdom registered its first two cases on Friday in two Chinese tourists who reported feeling unwell in York. So far, more than 17,350 people have been infected worldwide and at least 360 people have died. At about 2 per cent, the fatality rate of this coronavirus is lower than the previous Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) coronavirus outbreaks. However, this did not stop the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the virus a public health emergency on Friday. This is largely over fears it could spread unhindered if infections take hold in a poorly prepared, densely populated developing country – as they now threaten to do in India. The WHO has advised people to reduce their risk of exposure by frequently cleaning their hands and avoiding close contact with anyone with a fever or cough. It has also advised against visiting live animal markets in areas with infections and from consuming raw or undercooked animal products. The Indian Government faced criticism after officially advising homeopathy and ayurvedic, plant-based remedies to effectively treat the disease. These included drinking an arsenic-based solution which is toxic when consumed long-term and putting drops of sesame seed oil inside your nose. “The number of Indian lives saved by homeopathy from the coronavirus will be exactly the same as lives saved by homeopathy from HIV,” said Oomen Kurien, the Head of the Observer Research Foundation’s Health Initiative. “False claims without any clinical data and endangering the lives of those who are at risk of infection,” tweeted Dr Sumaiya Shaikh, an Australian neuroscientist. Following the criticism, the Indian Government backtracked and said its advisory was issued as a ‘preventative measure’ and not as ‘treatment advice’ and that it has a clear plan in place to combat the spread of the virus. It has screened more than 60,000 passengers arriving at its airports for coronavirus symptoms, as well as on its land border with Nepal after a case was confirmed there. India also joined the United States and Australia in chartering an emergency flight to bring back citizens who had been stranded in Wuhan. India has a population of 1 BILLION. It is possibly the most populous country on earth. It also has insufficient healthcare for those people.
The combination could be explosive. |

LOL! Yeah, pretty dirty! Great food though! My wife & I were in India a few years ago, the filth & crowding on the streets of New Dehli were amazing! Our guide said that the homeless were refugees from Bangladesh, but who knows? The air pollution was stunning, I've read that Dehli is worse than Beijing now! Interestingly, the rural area to the north (Golden Triangle) near Agra is quite lovely! Not very industrialized, very agricultural. I was very fond of it. Quite honestly, America has some real sh*thole pockets as well. |

The next line of the report which states:- "At least 2,000 other Indians have now been quarantined across the country in hospitals or in their homes after displaying symptoms of the virus." 2,000 suspected cases is something to be worried about |

You might want to tell him to 'stay awhile' if he's a good kinda bloke... might not be a good time to go home! And yes, realize you are worried about him being a carrier already - praying he got out in time and his visit to your son is nothing more then a treasured visit! |

With the amount of animosity between the two countries, I doubt Pakistan would be the place they’d head for. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they have their own cases anyway.

NEWSLIVE TV APPMAGAZINE NewsIndiaCorinavirus outbreak: 31 of 36 quarantined in Maharashtra test negative2 Corinavirus outbreak: 31 of 36 quarantined in Maharashtra test negative Thirty one persons, out of the total 36 quarantined in Maharashtra since January 18 for possible exposure to novel coronavirus, have tested negative for the infection, while the test results of five others are awaited. Press Trust of India Mumbai February 10, 2020UPDATED: February 10, 2020 00:35 IST Over 21,000 travellers have been screened at the Mumbai international airport so far. (Imnage for represnetation: AP) Thirty one persons, out of the total 36 quarantined in Maharashtra since January 18 for possible exposure to novel coronavirus, have tested negative for the infection, while the test results of five others are awaited, the state Health Department said on Sunday. Over 21,000 travellers have been screened at the Mumbai international airport so far, of whom 36 had been quarantined, it said. Meanwhile, the department has said that the people of Redi town in Sindhudurg district, where a cargo ship from Singapore with 10 Chinese crew members on-board has arrived, need not panic as none of the members were found symptomatic. "Total 21,023 travellers have been screened at Mumbai international airport till now. Field surveillance is also going on across the state to find out the people who have come from the coronavirus-affected regions," the department said in a statement. "Since January 18, a total 36 symptomatic travellers have been isolated in identified isolation facilities. 151 travellers have come to the state from the coronavirus- affected regions," it said. "Till today (Sunday), 31 samples, out of the 36 sent by the state, have been found negative as per the reports of the National Institute of Virology, Pune. Results of five are awaited- two from Kasturba Hospital (in Mumbai) and one each from hospitals in Sangli, Navi Mumbai and Pune," it said. The health department said the residents of Redi town in Sindhudurg do not need to panic over the arrival of a cargo ship from Singapore with 10 Chinese crew members on-board at the port in the town three days ago. "This cargo ship and all its crew members are medically examined at Mumbai port and after finding everybody asymptomatic, the cargo ship was allowed to leave it for Redi," it added. However, due to the fear expressed by the local people, all the crew members were once again examined by the medical team led by the district civil surgeon. "Nobody was found symptomatic during this examination," the statement said. This cargo ship had left Singapore three weeks back, while the Chinese crew members on board this ship had left China near about three months back, it added. "Looking at the prevalent guidelines regarding the coronavirus surveillance, no one from these crew members can be suspected for infection. So there is no need to panic," the department said. As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, all travellers coming from Wuhan city of China are being isolated and tested, the statement said. "The travellers coming from other affected parts are being followed for 14 days. Till date, out of the 151 travellers, 72 have completed their follow-up of 14 days," it said.
