I am always so shocked to see how many Canadians have so much money to purchase homes in the southern U.S. and Central America.  They really try and get away from the snow.  You guys always look like you have tons of money and you all at least years ago in 2006 usually bought your houses for cash at least that is what I was told on a tour of Toronto.   And the houses were very expensive...do you guys have lots of money?

Flumom - LOL, I wish I did... a lot of the snowbirds work their whole lives - then sell off most/downsize and buy another property.  I have no idea if they pay cash or not, but it might be a good way to avoid taxes (no idea, I'm not in the category of paying cash for anything  )  Regardless - it's typically their life's work downsized here - at least for the ones I know it is. Most of the people I know can't afford second places like that, cash or otherwise...

Well....'stuff' just got real here in Alberta as a province wide 'State of Emergency' has been declared:

The Alberta government has declared a state of public emergency to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, premier Jason Kenney announced Tuesday afternoon.

Albertans will now be prohibited from attending casinos and bars and nightclubs, where minors are prohibited by law, and all public gatherings of more than 50 people should be cancelled.

Albertans will also be restricted from attending public recreational facilities and private entertainment facilities, including gyms, swimming pools, arenas, science centres, museums, art galleries, community centres, children’s play centres, casinos, racing entertainment centres, and bingo halls.

Conferences and family events such as weddings and funerals should also be cancelled, Kenney said.

Grocery stores, shopping centres, health centres, airports, the legislature and other essential services are exempt.

Sit down restaurants are permitted to stay open but are limited to 50 people or half their capacity, whichever is lower.

Drive-through and delivery of food is still permitted, and restaurants will now be allowed to sell off their liquor to clear out their inventory

Kenney also announced Tuesday afternoon that $60 million for homeless shelters, women’s emergency shelters and the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program.
