One of my worst nightmares...  I'm sure most of you have read One Second After (EMP) where they are trying to help those in Sr. homes... that has stuck in my head the last 12 yrs or so since reading.  I have friends who work in care homes - not easy job, and they are worried about catching it, but they are doing MORE to protect their clients and themselves, not running from the responsibility!  I thank God everyday that mom is alive, healthy and in her own home still... now more then ever.

Hats off and prayers for safe keeping for all the people out there taking care of our seniors - whether they are a loved one or neighbour in a private home, a lodging/shared facility, a full care home, whatever - prayers for safe keeping!!!

If it's to be - it's up to me!

This is so sad, people will take care of themselves first.  This is going to happen across the world.  Sad but in Italy a lot of families keep their older loved ones at home and that is why it has spread so much in Italy.  So I do not know what the answer is for this.  You have to tip your hat and thank the people who work in these homes.

Here is another article on this situation, apparently huge issues with private funded homes - government is taking them all over it sounds like.  May all these beautiful seniors stay safe and those who have passed - RIP.

I read that they found 25 bodies in one care home and the staff had just abandoned their posts. I only hope they were dead before they left. It's terrible.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Oh my gracious, absolutely heart-wrenching. It is hard for me to imagine leaving elderly people to die — especially like that...

My guess is there was only one or two caregivers on duty, and when people started dying they were overwhelmed and frightened.  Given the circumstances, there should have been someone of authority there, also.  Not that abandoning them was right in any way, but a lot of times, the people for profit companies hire are little more than bodies in the building.

It should never have happened like that.  Leaving people who make low wages and have few choices responsible during a disaster is a failure of management.  No question.
