It was to be expected (being in the middle of a civil war), if the coronavirus reached there, but all the same it is sad and shocking.

Originally posted by "BBC Live News" "BBC Live News" wrote:

The United Nations says aid workers report that war-torn Yemen's healthcare system has "in effect collapsed" and coronavirus is spreading through the country.

Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), described the situation as "extremely alarming" at a Geneva briefing.

He said aid agencies had talked of people being turned away from treatment centres partly because staff lacked personal protective equipment.

The Yemeni authorities have confirmed scores of coronavirus cases, and 30 deaths. But the UN says the real figures are almost certainly much higher.

Years of fighting have made millions of Yemenis homeless; many are malnourished; and most of the population depends on aid.

Well, Saudi Arabia should send help...they have all the oil money and this is a Muslim country they should be helping them.  Sorry but the U.S. can't take care of the whole world ...anyway from what I see here from people from other countries they HATE America.  Let them take care of Yemen and other countries that are having a bad time.   Time for others to step up!

Actually, Saudi Arabia has been sending aid to one of the factions, unfortunately it has mostly been in the form of bombs!   [No guessing allowed as to which country is supplying/selling Saudi Arabia with most of its weapons and so is profiting from the conflict.]

I think you will find that there is a division in Arab countries that is even more bitter than the current USA-China spat, and the Yemen is where the bigger local powers (Saudi Arabia and Iran) are playing this out in a bloody way.  Also many of the other local countries are involved in supporting one or more of the factions - at least 5 major groupings complicate the situation.
