Colorado Gov. Jared Polis tweeted Friday morning that he was “shocked we were lied to” following a report that a promised increase in COVID-19 vaccine doses won’t be coming because the federal stockpile already had been used up.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced earlier this week that the federal government would stop holding doses in reserve. The idea of a reserve was to ensure that every person who got a first dose could get the second one required to complete the vaccine sequence in three to four weeks.

Some raised concerns that eliminating the stockpile could leave recipients with only partial protection if logistical problems arose, but governors — including Polis — greeted the news warmly and planned to speed up distribution to older residents.

But the Trump administration had stopped holding back doses in December, meaning there was no stockpile to send out when Azar made the announcement, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Not just your country, right across Europe and UK, Brazil, Austraila and Canada.  The orders that were on route turned up way short of what was suppose to be.  Stockpiling always includes orders that have been dispatched.  So just like your amazon tracking if it says it us dispatched you expect and plan for its arrival...however on arrival the order has not been fulfilled completely and you have to make new plans to deal with the shortages.  Problem is Pfizer admit they were too late letting countries know.  I guess just what happens in these times.

So countries thought they had shipments with hundreds of thousands on opening found tens of thousands. So playing havoc with vaccine strategies as stockpiles across world lower than should be.  Many countries furious. Pfizer didnt inform them until last minute.  They accept responsibility and  have apologised.

The overall reason they give for unexpected delivery shortfall was that they had to upgrade existing production facilities worldwide and they were having to shut due to upgrades.

So US not alone in this. Every country will have a stock tolerance  to cope with logistic problems that arise, but due to rising deaths, every country has had to make these decisions to push ahead.  Dammed if they do dammed if they dont.. I know it may seem everything is going pear shaped but we are all in same boat.
