DJ, It is a sign of hope that at least some discussion is continuing on this man-made pandemic. Just like climate change this pandemic is the outcome-most-of inaction. Those in positions that matter "looked the other way" when it was time to use those positions... This goes for politicians, but what about the MSM ? The "free press" owned by companies that see every crisis as a bussiness-oppertunity ? In the US at least trump had to go due to not doing enough to stop the pandemic. (He did do something-"warp-speed" may have given us vaccines-but with NPI/lockdowns in time we would not need those vaccines..) Here in NL "our" "neo-liberal" "government" is doing good in polls for showing "leadership"....That leadership did bring us tens of thousends of deaths, hundreds of thousends of joblosses, lots of long term health issues and an economic damage unseen since World War Two...But they get away with it... What responsibility lies on individual level ? People that can get information but refuse to be informed ? Maybe the most shocking part of this pandemic is the widespread level of insanity in society...I do not "own reality" but at least I am trying to learn...Maybe out of fear a lot of people go into a "cult-like" semi-reality or even move away from the real world alltogether... Politics in many countries did lose contact with the "real world" most people live in long ago.... When you talk about political faillure in this pandemic, what about expectations on climate change, a next pandemic, global (in)equality or wars ? How rational are humans ? |

Right on, Josh, especially the part about individual responsibility. In the US, we allegedly have government of, for, and by the people. Sometimes the people can't wait for the government to set the tone. Or if they set the wrong tone, it is up to us to correct them. I believe we did, with our ballots. But we could do so much more... |
