I can live with people not being vaccinated.  I can live with people not wearing their masks correctly.  But when the checkout guy at the grocery store pulled his mask down a bit more (his nose was already showing) so that he could lick his fingers to get the plastic bag open, it was too much.  I was nice about it, but I asked him not to bag anymore of my groceries.  I mean really, I don’t want your spit on my stuff in regular times, let alone during a pandemic.

If only people could learn basic hygiene...

Here most of our fruit and veg is sold loose, and I always have trouble with opening the plastic bags for them.  My solution was to get a number of reusable bags with a cloth netting and a draw string to close. From time to time the shop sold them in aid of The Red Cross/Crescent.

ps. My family will be getting similar bags for Christmas (but this time from the Nature Protection Society) [this bit of Christmas shopping already done!]

What is wrong with paper bags ? Here in NL the idea is you have to pay extra for a plastic bag...to much plastics allready.

Micro-plastics even end up in drinking water, the food chain. A very tiny part of what we eat or drink is allready plastic we did not deal with in a proper way !

Of course you can always ask for a paper bag in the supermarket...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Eventually they will be banned here too, but for now plastic bags are still the default.

My checkout guy was new, and I think that he realized just how stupid it was to lick his fingers. (He apologized profusely.) Hopefully he learned something, and we can learn that even in a place that seems safe (this store requires employees to wear masks, and not all stores require that) we have to stay alert.
