I've come to realise I should be sticking to facts during these untrusting uncertain times (well as much 'facts' as we can actually get) I wouldn't want to be classed as scaremongering lol :-) Anyway these are the daily information for Northern Ireland. I know NI isn't that big and our numbers aren't as high as others. But I thought it could provide a picture. Maybe a pattern? Maybe help somehow...... If it doesn't I will stop after a period.. ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ Northern Ireland - Tues 21/12/21 2069 new cases (41 tests from hospital laboratories + 2055 from community) Ages of cases- 0-19 +541; 20-39 +995; 40-59 +468; 60-79 + 77; 80+ - 13; Uknown- +2 Hospital occupancy- currently 268 ICU occupancy - 34 (we have 15 ICU beds available) care home outbreak - +2 (43 confirmed) * Thoughts and prays with everyone 🙏 * 3 new deaths - male +1, female +2 Ages; 40-50 +1; 60-70 +2 setting - Hospital +3 Vaccination 1st dose - +556 (now 1,392,640) 2nd does- +610 (now 1,392,640) booster - +14, 758 (now 681,297) Like I said I am hoping this will shed some light and hopefully help. I came to this forum for information and help. So others might too... :-) |

It's those care home cases that concern me (43). I am assuming they are all double vaxxed at the least. |

Northern Ireland - Wed 22/12/21 New cases - 3231 (!) 93 from hospital laboratories and 3138 from community........ Ages of Positive cases; 0-19 +671; 20-39 +1731; 40-59 +681; 60-79 +128; over 80 +19; unknown +1 Hospital occupancy -7 (currently 261) / ICU occupancy is unchanged (currently 34) / We have 10 ICU beds available.. *Thoughts and prays with everyone 🙏 New deaths - +3 (male +2; female +1) / Ages 40-59 +2 / 60-79 +2 (+1 death added from yesterday) Vaccination - 1st dose +1113 (now 1,393,753) / 2nd dose +1123 (now 1,292,111) / booster +29,016 (now 710,313) * I realise this can never be a true account of what is actually going on. We have to take into consideration excess deaths, people unwilling to test for covid, lack of track and trace, 'the 28 day' covid death rule and of course long covid has been completely ignored.. But it's the best we've got (or I've got lol) at this time for NI... |

Hey Tabitha :-) We had a massive problem before with care homes unfortunately. We were just unprepared and the hospitals sent people back to care homes to finish treatment there, to save beds. Unfortunately due to this covid outbreaks happened most in care homes.... At least now we know what happened and hopefully will learn from our mistakes... Like you said now most people in care homes have booster or at least are double vaccinated. Which I'm sure will help... |

You're very wise to take precautions Tabitha. There has been an incident here where a double vaxxed care home worker was assumed to be Covid free (had no symptoms, wasn't asked to do a lateral flow test because double jabbed), so went into work and it turned out they did have Covid and gave it to 15 elderly residents, all vaxxed, many who were then hospitalised and some whom later died. This was about a month ago. Shocking if you ask me. |

Wow those figures have climbed sharply. We've just identified our first case of Omicron in the community here - in a nightclub DJ, so watch this space! We're about the same size and population as Ireland. |

* The positive cases are highest in 20 -39 age group. We also had a death in that age bracket yesterday which I thought would have been highlighted more here especially as it was Christmas... Unfortunately the care home outbreaks are rising again. Like Scotland and Ireland our hospital occupancy is rising quite quickly too. |

And still here in my retirement community, visitors come and go, some without masks (as our director said "it's optional") We even had a bus from here go to the local Walmart this morning with residents going shopping - most without masks or if they bothered, flimsy cloth ones. I hope we are luckier than other places, as I sit here in my apartment, whilst most of the residents are eating in the dining room all together.....yikes! |

Yep, Tabitha, same here. I went out a couple times before Christmas and saw that only about 40% of people were wearing masks, as you said, mostly cloth ones. Before November, our county, Allegheny, of which Pittsburgh is the seat, tallied an average of less than 300 cases of Covid a day. Then a few weeks into November, you began to see totals of 500-700 cases/day, which number held for about a month, then presumably as Omicron made its way here, we have been just under 2000 cases a day. I went out before Christmas and then again before New Years, and was gloved and N-95ed. Now, I do not intend to go out except to the corner store to get milk/bananas until cases fall substantially again. |

Unfortunately the governments are adamant not to put restrictions into place and one of the places that will feel it the most is our care homes. In their bid to keep schools open at all costs, they have chosen to ignore this fact or even past experiences. Our care homes took a blow last time and I had really hoped we won't make the same mistakes over.. |

Yes, I have two air purifiers with HEPA filters in my teeny tiny studio apartment, plus I crack the window all day long, plus I put a door guard on my door (near the floor) the main door that goes into the hallway that air can get under. It's not perfect, but I do my best. This is why I don't want to get this (see tweet below) , on top of it all, I am overweight (working on it) and 64....have a "friend" who is in her 70s, diabetic, extremely obese- tell me today that "she wasn't afraid to get it" and "you don't see her acting all afraid" implying that me with my mask and eating in my room that I am "afraid" and shouldn't be. |

My family had COVID over the holidays. Go sick on Thursday, tested Saturday morning negative, then went to my husbands Christmas party. Still sick so tested again Tuesday, negative. Wednesday, lost my sense of smell and taste and both hubby and son got sick. Friday, Christmas Eve, positive. And it was NOT mild. The sort throat didn't last long for me but the congestion and coughing was the worst! 12 days I was sick. I did nyquil, Mucinex D, vicks on chest, humidifier, 2 steam showers a day. It was awful. Testing in my opinion is also awful! What a mess! |

Roni, hope you are well.. Before Christmas our head of Health basically pleaded with Ni on the radio. To say to ignore what the government said and to treat it like you have been told to go into lock down. I think not many people listened. We were told if we have any symptoms to isolate immediately. Again I don't think many listened... Now our advice is to do a lateral flow every day for 10 days.... Even before Covid my pet peeve was parents sending kids in when ill, wheather that was a cold or tummy. Not a care in the world spreading things around lol. And that was before Covid, now its just madness lol... |

https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/covid-ni-how-report-lateral-22668565 Unfortunately I don't think it's worth while carrying on this thread. Northern Ireland had announced a few things last week but the main one was no need for PCR test if you get a positive lateral flow at home. My first thought was positive as now everyone has to test for 10 days if they are in contact with a positive case. So my thinking was outbreaks in schools and work places would be caught much quicker... Then my second thought was is this just another way to fix the numbers??? https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/health/covid-ni-over-2700-positive-22698742 2700 positive cases and 6 deaths *This could/will get bad here very quickly and now we are blind. |
