This is an interesting article from the British press today asking if Omicron has peaked yet. Halfway down the article the author suggests that perhaps people are NOT getting tested at the moment because they fear they will test positive and therefore will have to self isolate and will miss out on meeting up with friends and relatives for Christmas. I'm absolutely sure that's the case with some people. This certainly could be one of the reasons why numbers have slowed.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Perhaps article is a few days old but numbers have not peaked. 23rd and 24th recorded approx 100'000 each day plus hundreds of kids in hospital with virus now. I suspect numbers will accelerate further after xmas, when the number crunchers are back.

I think you're right. This is the headline today in the Daily Mail anticipating a huge jump in numbers once the holidays are over.

https://twitter.com/dgurdasani1 or https://twitter.com/dgurdasani1Remember, a huge part of the omicron advantage is being able to infect people with previous immunity that delta wouldn't have been able to penetrate. To argue that this somehow leads to a reduction in risk, is frankly nuts.

DJ Omicron must have still lots of possible hosts in the UK and other places...

Well it might be a reduction in risk  if the effect on the huge majority of the population of getting it is akin to a winter's cold and nothing more than that.

'IF' this is the case then you as a country are not bothered whether there are 100K, 200K or half a million infections every day provided the hospitals are not overloaded.

Of course at this point hospitals might well be overloaded by staff isolating under the legal rules for something which might be just another a cold so unavailable for work - but that's a different issue.

so it all depends on the ratio between the numbers of new and previous infectee's fully/partially vaxed or not that the new variant can infect vs how severe is that infection.
