Pará has 154 confirmed cases of H3N2 and almost a thousand hospitalizations for respiratory syndromes
Writing by Writing
- January 6, 2022

In 2021, the state had recorded 248 deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Period until March is considered seasonal for flu cases.

Pará has 154 confirmed cases of H3N2 so far, according to information from the State Department of Health (Sespa) released this Thursday (6). The agency explains that the analysis of cases is done on a sample basis, not a diagnosis, but an assessment of the weekly epidemiological scenario. Also according to Sespa, no cases of H1N1 were registered in 2021 and in the first days of 2022.

The Municipal Health Department of Belém gave the first alert about an outbreak of flu in the capital on December 15, 2021, when it found that the health units were overcrowded.

Sespa later confirmed the H3N2 outbreak, as there was no record of the virus circulating in the state, and with the occurrence of a single case, according to the Epidemiological Surveillance, it became considered an outbreak.

After the first record of double infection by the flu and Covid-19 viruses in Brazil, attention in Pará was redoubled, since the period from November to March are considered seasonal for cases of flu. According to Sespa, for the time being there are no records of double infection in Pará.

Respiratory syndrome cases and deaths

Between November and December 2021 alone, approximately one thousand hospitalizations related to severe acute respiratory syndromes were observed in Pará.

In 2021, Pará recorded 248 deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), with three deaths in November and December.

In the city of Cametá, northeast of Pará, there are cases being investigated, but the Health Department did not say how many, only that so far there are four suspected cases of febrile hemorrhagic disease that are under laboratory and epidemiological investigation. There is no confirmation that it is H3N2 or Covid-19.

Deaths caused by virus in Cametá reaches 10, carnival remains suspended and mayor does not want any more parties
January 5, 2022 leaf 0 comments Cametá , Carnival continues without official cancellation , Deaths caused by virus in Cametá reaches 10 deaths

With the occurrence of new deaths, announced by residents on social networks – raising to 10 deaths -, caused by pneumonia and hemorrhage, the situation became more critical in the municipality of Cametá, in the Baixo Tocantins Region, northeast of Pará. Authorities have already confirmed 8 official deaths.

The suspicion is that the deaths are as a result of complications caused by the H3N2 variant of the influenza virus. The possibility of Flurona is not ruled out , as the double infection of flu and Covid-19 has been called.

The Municipal Health Department of Cametá sent the samples taken from the dead patients and sent them to the Central State Laboratory (Lacen) for analysis. All deaths were related to young people up to 30 years of age.

Due to this very serious situation that the municipality has been facing, the mayor of Cametá should announce in the coming hours, through a decree, drastic measures to try to contain the advances of the virus that has not yet been officially diagnosed by the authorities, which may be associated with covid-19. and the influence, if this materializes, the situation could become a serious threat to the health of the population of Cameta.

With no answers from the municipal authorities, family members of other patients have been using social networks to report other cases in the municipality. Social networks and the local press became the most important weapons in Cametá to make the situation unaffected.

Victor Cassiano highlighted that the situation is serious, the Cametá Regional Hospital does not have an ITI and is full, the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) is also fully operational, many patients are in serious condition, with pneumonia and hemorrhage, but still without a final diagnosis of the disease.

Meanwhile, health professionals in the municipality continue to be devalued by the municipal government, many remain exhausted and without a decent pay for shifts, others claim lack of gloves and personal protective equipment.

In an interview with reporter Márcio Mendes, Vitor Cassiano Mayor of Cametá, was upset by the parties that took place during this period of decree in the municipality, he said that these people are irresponsible and will be punished with prisons.

DJ; Testing may be overstretched...did H3N2 patients catch CoVid in healthcenters waiting for care ? Or are both virus spreading high spead ?

Pará investigates whether deaths from hemorrhage are related to H3N2
Luciana Cavalcante
Collaboration for UOL, in Belém
01/05/2022 17:48

The Pará Health Department is investigating the deaths of eight people from hemorrhage who also had flu-like symptoms, which occurred in December 2021, at the Regional Hospital of Cametá, a city in the northeast region of the state. The folder seeks to know if there is any relationship between the deaths and the H3N2 outbreak that affects the municipality.

Samples of patients, aged between 18 and 35 years, are being analyzed at Lacen (Central Laboratory) and at the Instituto Evandro Chagas, linked to the state government, in Belém. Sespa (Secretariat of Health of Pará) did not inform the deadline for dissemination of exam results.

Flu and Covid saturate the health system and 265 patients wait for beds: 'we fight bleeding with a band-aid', says infectious disease specialist
This Tuesday's information (4) is in a panel with data from the public network. There are 143 active ICU requests and 122 ward requests. State infectious disease specialists and the Physicians Union report drama.

The flu epidemic associated with the Covid-19 pandemic is causing saturation in Pernambuco's public health network. According to data from Monday (3) released this Tuesday (4), there were 265 people with serious respiratory diseases waiting for ICU and ward vacancies (see video above).

The information is on a public panel that presents data from beds in the public network for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Srag) in the state.

According to data from this Tuesday's panel, the number of active requests for ICU beds in Pernambuco was 143, with 138 adults and five children. There were also 122 requests for vacancies in wards, 115 for adults and seven for children.

According to the infectologist, the active request for beds means that a vacancy was requested, but the patient had not been covered by the bed until the registration.

The lack of vacancies became greater at the end of December 2021. On the 30th, the number of active requests for ICU beds for severe respiratory diseases stood at 160.

Infectologist Felipe Prohaska, from the team at the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital (Huoc), in Recife, reported that a patient who was admitted to the João Murilo Hospital, in Vitória de Santo Antão, in the Zona da Mata, received from the bed regulation center, in the second (3), the card number 162.

The challenge for health professionals and authorities is getting worse every day. Also on December 30, 2021, the state secretary of health, André Longo, stated that the state was experiencing an “H3N2 epidemic within the Covid-19 pandemic”.

On Monday, the government changed the care protocol and said that anyone who has a negative test for Covid-19 is advised to seek a doctor and spend seven days at home.

Until the second, according to the State Health Department (SES), 5,253 cases of influenza had been recorded, with 30 deaths.

DJ; Did H3N2 virus get more severe ? Is there a new CoViD-variant spreading in Brazil ? Or is the co-infection the main problem ?

Brazil confirms 115 cases of flurone that hits with flu and Covid at the same time
Sao Paulo authorities confirmed this Tuesday at least 110 cases of flurone
News 04/01/2022 15:48 EFE Updated 15:48

The health authorities of Sao Paulo, the most populous state in Brazil, confirmed this Tuesday that at least 110 cases of flurone have been registered in that region since the covid-19 pandemic reached the country in February 2020.

As of Monday, six cases had been confirmed throughout Brazil, three in the state of Ceará, two in Rio de Janeiro and one in Sao Paulo, and it was thought that they were the first in Latin America until the announcement made this Tuesday by the state of Sao Paulo, through its Ministry of Health.

Currently, the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina and Rio de Janeiro are investigating new suspected cases of flurone, a name given to the simultaneous infection of flu and covid.

In the city of Rio de Janeiro, another 17 cases are analyzed in patients who so far do not present a serious situation, as confirmed by the municipal secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz.

For its part, the Santa Catarina Health Secretariat reported that it is waiting for the laboratory results of ten patients to see if they contracted the two viruses simultaneously in that region of southern Brazil, while that of Minas Gerais admitted that it is investigating a case registered in the city of Juiz de Fora.

Despite the interest generated by this situation, which led to the neologism, flurone is not a novelty and had already been registered in other countries, such as the United States, where there were cases of patients with double infection in 2020.

The specialists admit that the cases can be numerous but difficult to be counted because laboratory confirmation of the two infections is necessary and many times the patients are not subjected to laboratory tests or are only tested for one of the viruses. usually covid-19.

But the records must multiply in the coming days because some states of Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, face, in addition to the covid pandemic, serious influenza outbreaks, which indicates that both viruses are circulating simultaneously and widely.

The flurone cases came back to attention last Saturday after Israel announced the registration of its first case of coinfection in a pregnant woman who had not been vaccinated against either virus. Since then, cases have also been registered in Spain and Hungary.

For the health authorities, cases of double infection are sporadic but so far they have not evolved into serious situations.

"It is important to highlight that there are no published scientific studies that confirm the clinical or immunological implications of a joint infection; we will follow any case that is notified," the Rio de Janeiro Health Secretariat said in a statement.

Brazil is one of the countries hardest hit by the covid pandemic, the second in number of deaths from coronavirus after the United States, with about 619,000 cases, and the third in infections after the United States and India, with about 22, 3 million cases.

DJ Co-infection of flu and CoVid a very serious problem in many parts of Brazil-or Latin America ? With testing/sequencing a major problem...poverty-simply no money for any medical care-another problem.

Brazil allready did see several outbreaks-also from local P1, P2 variants...a concentration of millions of poor people living close to eachother with CoViD and now flu increasing is asking for a disaster !

The virusses most likely will/can not mix/recombinate...I hope. But still many other diseases/virusses may get even worse !

Good public health is essential for the survival of human kind ! We simply are going blind...maybe missing 99,95% of mutations, recombinations, co-infections, variants...with HCW-ers getting more and more infected-so even getting less a view of events...moving towards missing 99,99% !

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
