Sonnyc has been a problem for a while.  A few months ago, we had advanced several member ratings as a reward for people who registered early.  Unfortunately, some bad apples got caught up in the mix.   We have also increased member ratings with an attempt to work with the more "unique" individuals, which never really worked as well.    During this time, we had also created Mod positions prematurely.

All of this has been fixed.  Sonnyc has also been removed.

Well experiment or not, troll or not , the point about distraction does have merit.  I read the entire thread and did not see much about the poor ladies death other than the initial post.  I think I understand the point about being distracted from our primary concern.  While Sonny might be a bad messenger, the message is still valid IMHO.

Tim, The distraction, as I see it, was in intentional stroll down sonny's personal garden path, with Chargingbear as his target, and sonnys posts, removed by Albert, proved sonny was many cards short of a full deck. Personally, I don't see any value in intentionally upsetting people to prove a point which was no point at all in the end. I dont think the real preppers on this forum can be distracted. All that debate did was to reinforce my belief that there really are people like that out there who are not mentally stable.

Tom you may very well be right.  I don't really know enough about the whole BF prep thing to argue the point.  I just thought that distraction is not a good thing where this is concerned.

To be honest Tim, at one point I actually considered what he was trying to prove. Then, I said to myself, its not up to him to prove that point here, especially if I didnt consent to that kind of deception. He wasnt supportive, nor informative. I wouldnt trust someone in the real world who did that to me, to use me as a guinea pig to prove a point. But your right, this is no time to be distracted. Im just glad he cant block my way to the grocery store! Thumbs Up

Not to change the subject too much, but we currently advance member ratings based on a few different factors, such as overall quality of post content, knowledge, helpfulness,  etc...   We have also advanced some based on various songs, poems...  Our new member rating system is getting quite sophisticated these days.   Spelling will never be a factor.

Thank you Tom.  Like we have always said, this is "your" (the members) forum.

The important thing is for all of us to work together.   With our current group that we now have, this should be very easy to accomplish.

Regarding your post:
"ARDS = acute respiratory distress syndrome. It's not limited to Adults. Doc. "

Actually, both terms (Acute or Adult) Respiratory Distress Syndrome are acceptable, although I will grant that probably the use of "Acute" is gaining favor.

Did you just see that post where Galesburg, IL is the "official certified testing lab."   Interesting.   I will save my comments in the speculation discussion.

'First-class all the way'

Redington remembered by community she touched

Monday, April 24, 2006

By TAMMY BOULD

The Register-Mail

GALESBURG - Thousands of people are mourning the loss of Sheila Redington, a mother of four, preschool teacher and cheerleading coach whose bubbly personality and unforgettable smile have been an inspiration to many.

The 44-year-old Galesburg woman died at 7:12 a.m. Sunday in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria from bacterial meningitis.

Her husband, Tim Redington, posted the news at 8:14 a.m. Sunday on a Web page the family set up to keep friends and family informed about her condition.

"I decided at the start of Sheila's illness to be open and share everything we knew because I knew how much Sheila means to so many people," he wrote. "I wish I could tell everybody how much all the support has meant to my family. I don't know how else to tell you but at 7:12 I just lost my love, my life and best friend."

Chantel Williams wipes away tears while holding on to her son, Tommy, 4, during a flag lowering ceremony at Costa Catholic School this morning. Standing behind them are Tim Redington's parents. Tommy was a pupil in Sheila Reington's class.

More than 16,000 visits had been logged at the Web site and more than 800 people had left messages for the Redingtons by Monday morning.

"I have been around town today," wrote Tom Simkins on Sunday evening. "There is nowhere free of the sadness of Sheila's passing."

Many people who never met Redington have been compelled to write to the family and offer their condolences, after being inspired by her positive influence on others and saddened by the tragedy of her illness and sudden death.

"I can't help but feel like I knew her in some small way, just by the loving words spoken of her," one local resident wrote Sunday afternoon.

Redington was a preschool teacher at Costa Catholic School and the head cheerleading coach at Galesburg High School. She began experiencing flu-like symptoms early last week and was taken by helicopter to OSF St. Francis Medical Center on Wednesday.

"A couple days into it, we thought she was doing better," Tim Redington said Saturday evening. "It's like slamming into a brick wall."

A sympathy balloon and card are attached to the door of Redigton’s preschool classroom this morning.

Saturday night her temperature rose to 108.5 degrees. Her lungs were starting to fill with fluid from the extra fluids she was being given because of the fever and the ventilator, which had been doing about 40 percent of her breathing but was turned back up to 100 percent.

Tim Redington said the family knew for about an hour before her passing Sunday morning that she was not going to make it.

"My heart is very heavy," Costa Catholic School Principal Carolyn Koos said this morning.

Costa lowered the school's flag to half-staff this morning and had a prayer service open to the community. Koos said two grief counselors will be at the preschool today, and that the entire school will likely be closed the day of the funeral. She said community members are welcome to attend the 7:30 a.m. rosary service Friday at the school.

Costa officials said Monday that people were offering condolences at the school by leaving flowers at the door to the preschool.

The school is taking donations for the Sheila Redington Preschool Scholarship. Donations may be made by calling the school at 344-3155. F and M Bank is collecting funds to help the Redington family with medical expenses.

Grief counselors were on hand for students and staff at Galesburg High School today, according to high school principal Diane Hutchins. They will be available Tuesday and Wednesday, too.

Galesburg District 205 superintendent Gene Denisar said in a statement released this morning that the staff and student body are deeply saddened by Redington's death and wish to express their condolences and support to the entire Redington family.

Redington also taught cheerleading at Carl Sandburg College's Kids on Campus. This would have been her fourth year.

CSC celebrated its 40th anniversary with an open house Sunday. Before CSC President Tom Schmidt opened the event, he asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of Redington.

"It is hard to imagine the lives that were touched directly by her, as well as indirectly," Schmidt said. "I chose to champion and cherish the experience we've had in this community and especially draw attention to the grace with which the rest of her family has dealt with what is truly a tragedy. ... Thank you for being here and conveying our best thoughts and prayers to that family."

Krissa Creech, the Kids on Campus coordinator had known Redington for 16 years. She said Redington was "fantastic to work with" and the children "just dearly loved her."

Creech's daughter is a GHS cheerleader and she said Redington taught her daughter more than just how to cheer.

"There are no words to describe what kind of person she was," Creech said. "Warm, tender and just first-class all the way."

Funeral arrangements for Redington were pending at press time.

ChargingBear,
Actually it sounds VERY much like Bacterial Meningitis. I am not a doctor, but my mom got viral meningitis just a couple months ago and the doctor who attended to her told us to be happy that she only got the viral kind as opposed to the Bacterial kind because the bacterial kind is much, much worse than the viral type. I had a boyfriend who dies (very suddenly) from bacterial meningitis in the 90's and I can tell you first hand, he spiked an unusually high fever (104.7) and got bad fluid in his lungs after only a few hours. The bacterial form of meningitis is sometimes also called pneumococcis meningitis and one of the worst things about it is that it attacks the respiratory system and is relentless. The respiratory distress that accompanies this is terrible. I am thankful that my boyfriend did not feel any of that lung problems because his brain had stopped functioning due to the high fever and the pressure on his brain. Matter of fact, when I first started doing my research on the bird flu, it made me think of my boyfriend because of the respiratory symptoms. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this along to all of you. I am not discounting that the above-mentioned case does sound very much like BF but it also sounds a wholelot like Bacterial Meningitis too. Hopefully some of what I have shared helps to ease a little of the tension that some of you may be fieeling about this case. I think it is probably menigitis as opposed to Bf because of thwe progression speed. Meninigitis happens VERY quickly.

There does seem to be a sense around here that if something or someone dies, it's bird flu.  Reminds me of the old saying "When your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

The death is sad, but why can't she just have died of meningitis, like the ME said?  I'm sure they wanted to do a pretty thorough autopsy just to be sure.  So why can't we accept the results from the experts?
