I hoped we'd make to Spring without a pandemic just so I could take advantage of May--this is garage sale time - I assume everyone knows what a garage sale is and that its not just a midwestern term...its where you sell your unwanted items for pennies on the dollar just to get rid of the "stuff." This is where you can find a bunch of prep/survival gear. Some neighborhoods have "neighborhood sales" that might have 20 homes involved. So, here's a chance to pick up items you might not have been able to afford or justify at this time. Last weekend I stopped at a few and found a new camp griddle, perfect for my stove, new in the package, for $1. It was marked $18 new. This is the time you can get BBQ grills and/or tanks, plastic gas containers, stoves, lamps, radios, small TV's, and camping supplies, tools, lots of shelving, winter clothes, baskets, all sorts of cooking utensils, and sleeping bags. Even furniture. I have wanted to put a couple of beds in the basement "hideout" and I am sure I'll find what I need this month. Had I not been nervous about the timing of the arrival of the H2H I would have waited until now to buy all of my cooking and emergency lighting gear but I got that out of the way early.
Although there's not a lot of money in it, it's also a time to get rid of anything you don'r think you'll need....and make a few bucks to buy more rice. |

In UK we don't have garage sales but we do have 'car boot sales'. At out local one hundreds of cars turn up, and sell just about everything imaginable. Last Sunday I got me an S10 military grade respirator of the correct size for only two pounds. It tested out great !. The other item I was after was a British Army lightweight poncho. These can be used as a 'gas cape', rain coat, tent, stretcher, groundsheet or hammock. The one I found was brand new and cost £1.50 or about two bucks in funny money Hi!. Now I need some spare filter cannisters. Incidently these masks cost about £140 new !.

I have bought most of my camping equipment at garage sales and will be
looking for additional kitchen equipment in the coming weeks. If you
are having your own garage sale you might want to check out this site:
