I found a place locally to get water barrels for storage. They are priced right, $5.00 each. The barrels are FDA food grade plastic. They were originally used to hold vinegar. They dont get reused. I know the vinegar wont be a problem to store potable water. My main concern is the vinegar residue in the plastic going to taint the taste of water if stored for any period of time? What would be the best way to clean them to get rid of any taste issues??

In plastic buckets Ive had about 50/50 luck using boiling water and
baking soda.....letting it sit a while (til it cools) and then washing
normally.
Not very practical with 55gals, I suppose. nawty |

I got one of these myself that had been used to store vinegar. I rinsed it, rinsed with bleach water, rinsed again, and then filled it up with bleach water and let it sit for a while and then dumped it and rinsed again. Still smells a little like vinegar but I am sure I'll be able to stand a little vinegar smell if I get thirsty and it won't affect at all as cooking water.
