Hitech - just wondering what you would do if your neighbor or child's school teacher or your local grocery clerk suddenly died of flu like symptons and their familys would not allow any testing?  Most times, I disagree how the government is working but this is definitely one of those da??ed if you do and da??ed if you don't.

Hey Ponygirl -
I don't understand what you mean by the statement "every state is on its own".  We always have been .. this is not new, it's the law and it is preferred.  Governor's of each state have the power, to call in their National Guard units, request Federal Assistance, etc. , and/or emergency
assistance such as funds.  Bush requested .. so much money to be used to battle the Avain Flu.  A small portion of that was approved by Congress.
They called it Phase 1.  I am guessing the money was distributed to each State by population count.  So there are more funds to be requested and released at Phase 2.  (not to be confused with Pandemic Phases). What would you have them do (the Federal Government), that they are not doing now? Just wondering?  They have given contracts to various vaccine makers for research and development.  The USA foots the bill for so much
internationally.  I have thought about that too and agree with their planning and implementation, I thiink it's reasonable. Always more could be done but where would the money come from?

The National Guard has been STRIPPED and material and equipment from various states for Bushy's WAR! Something the National Guard was NEVER supposed to be FOR!  Now they're setting up a DRAFT for boys AND girls.  Yes, you'll need all the AMMO you can GET!  Contracts are going no-bid style to FRIENDS of Bush and their ILK like to Rumsfeld's company for Tamiflu and other WORTHLESS ventures.  NO OVERSIGHT HERE!  This is the problem with recomending what to do.   We're being LIED to every step of the way.  We can't TRUST a single thing that spews forth from government / media sources anymore.  It'd be nice if INDEPENDENT doctors and medical personelle could organize apart from government efforts.  Something we could trust.

I still recomend independent PREPAREDNESS.  Food, supplies, medicines etc.  Stay away from their vaccines, quarantines and DETENTION CAMPS!

We've already seen the usurpation of the ballot box, the soap box etc...
When they start spreading this Spanish Flu for real and implementing Martial Law, the time comes for us to use the CARTRIDGE BOX!

IF that is there are any of U.S. LEFT resisting Bushy's DRAFT for war on Iran.

...WAITING FOR THE BIG BANG!!

Hello hitech,

I'm guessing here but I take it you didn't vote for President Bush?

I'm also guessing you don't think much of the war?

I'm reaching now and assuming you don't have a great interaction with the men and woman doing the fighting in this war?

Personally since they are shedding the blood it is only their opinion I am interested in.

I can say that we have a military base in our area and those soldiers have done a large share of the fighting. The men and woman I know and speak with, have Bar-B-Ques at my home, and help while they are deployed, ARE VOLUNTEERING TO GET BACK IN THE FIGHT. I don't hear any complaints and even the wounded I have sat with want to get back to their unit.

My son departs shortly and his friends are there and have been there several times. None plan on leaving the Army and just the opposite all plan on a long career.

I have sat at our airport on a dark night with a slight drizzle and 20 feet to my right was the pure happiness and emotion of the troops coming home and hugging their spouses and children. 20 feet to my left was the limousine and an Honor Guard bringing home their fellow soldier who didn't make it.

I have been in the same operating room with a brave young Marine that was hit by a mortar and lost part of his skull. They had planted the top of his skull in his abdomen so that it would grow and then be surgically replaced. This young man almost died a few times along the way.

I asked him if their was anything I could do and his sole wish was that his medic receive a medal for saving his life. He stated he wanted to get back to his unit as soon as possible and wondered how his Gunny was.

We were a couple rooms apart and with a few calls he got to speak with his Gunny in Iraq and months later he was reunited with the Navy medic and witnessed that medic get the medal. While this Marine couldn't report back to duty he did give an address on the USS Yorktown that same year and he is doing great.

Trust me; the Defense department does not want a draft. The military wants to stick with highly dedicated, professional, and honorable soldiers.

Can we stick to the Bird Flu?

Replying to Brianages.... Why not talk to the THOUSANDS that have gone AWOL refusing to shoot civilians?  Why not talk to the THOUSANDS DYING from Depleted uranium munitions or having their limbs blown off.  Cindy Sheehan is but one vocal example of a VALID OPINION of those having kids slaughtered for Bush and Rumsfeld BUSINESS purposes.  Haliburton, Bechtel and Carlyle groups.  I have ZERO problem with the brave kids brainwashed into thinking they're defending this country while making these SCUM RICH!  I support our troops and we should BRING THEM HOME!

And NO, I don't like Bush and have had Secret Service visits due to comments on BOTH Bush and Clinton.  BOTH along with Bush SENIOR and their ilk are guilty of HIGH TREASON and deserving of:

IMPEACHMENT
CONVICTION
EXECUTION

But I'm not gonna hold my breath that our TREASONOUS Congress critters will do THEIR job by doing so.

It's not possible to NOT talk about this since depleting our AMERICAN KID RESOURCES is part of the overall NWO scheme / SCAM!

Kill of our kids and use FOREIGN TROOPS for domestic pacification.

Just a question, are you one of the believers of the Illuminati and the quest for world domination after annihilation of 1/2 of the world and enslavement of the other half?

The 12-18 month pandemic would naturally include all of the 2-3 waves where there are a lot of infectious people in our country.  That is the way every influenza pandemic, and many other pandemics occur.  Most of the time during that period between waves there will be almost business as normal, or at least that is what planners presume.  Of course some businesses will fail during each wave.  Remeber they are assuming that 60% of the workforce will be working, that there will be food deliveries to stores most of the time, etc.  So why would anyone stock for more than one wave, even if you were afraid to go out when there were a lot of infectious people around?

While Bush is not responsible for avian flu, the way he manages public health leaves a lot to be desired.  The Center for Disease Control and FDA used to be guided by scientific experts, now the political appointees overrule expert committees all the time.  When Bush responds to a disaster, he does it in a way that his friends and big businesses and stockholders will benefit the most, to hell with employees or the public.

There is the theory that the reason he wants so much of the pandemic funds in vaccine development (which won't help us at least in the first wave) is that Secr. of Defence Rumsfeld, former Secretary of State George Shultz, and other political heavyweights are big investors in Roche, who owns Tamilflu.  "I don't know of any biotech company that's so politically well-connected," says analyst Andrew McDonald of Think Equity Partners in San Francisco." http://cleveland.indymedia.org/news/2005/11/17763.php
That makes some sense considering things like post 9/11 when the airlines were in danger of bankrupcy, the administrations plan made sure the corporations stayed in business, but many of the employees lost their jobs.  In Katrina, money went to a lot of contractors who could make a lot of money at inflated prices.  FEMA does not do things like put up trailers or repair houses, those things are contracted out to private business, mostly outsiders who charge inflated prices.  I was in Biloxi Mississippi and the poor people were getting practically nothing done for them, while the middle class were able to use their insurance and FEMA money to hire the out of town contractors.  If FEMA gives a poor person $50,000 for a ruined house, but labor charges and the housing market are now inflated by over 100%, that poor person will be out on the street in no time.  Then to recover the city, the city condemns the damaged poor housing and lets the casinos buy the property to increase their profits.  And of course we all know about Haliburton getting rich in Iraq.  So Bush is not responsible for a pandemic, but he continues to live up to his screwed up priorities.  Since 9/11 he has decreased state and local subsidies for all kinds of health and public safety measures.

You are falling for a  load of crap.. "Bushy's War", eh?  Well when does it become YOUR war???  You know that Draft stuff LOL this is just sooo sick. It's politics at its worse.  That was a pollitical stunt used a while back,
where a few of the Democrat Congressmen got together and planted a bill in Congress then they DIDN'T VOTE FOR IT.   Congressmen Rangle a few years ago.  Now he is doing it again.  Knowing people dont necessarily read details, just headlines.  This is YOUR Congressmen foolin with your emotions.  It's HR 4752 and he probably giggled and wasted more tax payer dollars  AGAIN.  These people need to be removed from office.  HE will vote AGAINST the bill he drafted himself. Hey it caused a stir before and caused more mistrust, why not do it again, eh??
It's NOT Rumsfeld's company either.  He owned shares in Gilead that is partially Tamiflu but known mostly for their HIV Drugs.  I posted here how Rumsfeld recused himself from anything to do with Gilead. So what's the big deal?  Check your sources Tech, check it right to very source.  Running around feeling like the government means you ill is just flat out wrong.

You watch and see re: this phony draft bill too.  I was astounded the last time he did it (Rangle), now again he does it. sheesh!!
This wasted time and our tax dollars could be put to better use (llike AVIAN FLU).  I am disgusted with the lot of them!!

It just is not the way you are seeing it Techy.    Or you are not checking your sources.  As far as Iran goes, they are making progress in their diplomatic talks.  I'd be more worried that Israel would bomb their sites and the US going in there on foot is just crazy.  It's just not gonna happen.

DisapproveListen, it sounds like you are scared out of your wits. Not in good way either. I know I have been dismissive of your rants before, I apologize. I really feel like you need to talk with someone you trust, and who won't torque you up anymore. See a doctor, priest  a counselor, someone who you can confide in about how anxiety producing all of this is for you. You offer some superb advice about preparations. It is lost due to rant fatigue in most of us here. Someone new to the forum and scared would not be helped by these posts. Calm levelheaded warning and cautions go much farther than the TRUST NO ONE, TAKE NO MEDICINES ACCEPT NO VACCINES.  That is plain irresponsibility. It reflects poorly on the board  and diminishes the Awesome research others have done here.

Truths and Lies.. little truth makes a statement believeable add a few lies
and whammo... you have your readership.  Tell me what year the CDC was not a political appointment?  What year was the FDA director NOT a political appointment?  Is Dr. Julie Gerberding not qualified in your opinion to be Director of the CDC?  You know as well as I do with every adminstration, they bring in their own people to head these agencies the experts and GS level employees don't change, just the top layer.  All the former Presidents brought in their own people, you are making this sound like it's not a normal thing.  You know too there are rules that govern investments when these people accept political appointments.  They are gone over with a "fine tooth comb".  If you think for one moment the Clinton or any former President's didnt do that same thing, then think again.
I know you know the history of Roche / Gillead so why are you posting it in such a way that only brings scorn down on this Adminstration?

No Bush is NOT responsible for the Avian Flu and as far as I can see he is doing the best he can under the circumstances when under the Clinton adminstration because of the lawsuits and lack of profit by the vaccine makers they high tailed it out of the US.

If you recall, it was just AFTER the Clinton left office that all the accounting irregularities were found with these large companies. They had been up to no good during the Clinton years.
What a load of crap you post here to be so critical of this adminstration when these large companies where not held accountable until AFTER Bush took office.  Oh yes he inherited a can of worms.  So very many people, every day people lost their jobs, their retirements due to faulty oversight.

We all have our own views on this.  I will grant you that FEMA is mismanaged BUT due to the total devastation that took place and even taking the 9/11 Panels recommendations, this caused disarray.  The rest of this stuff, the contractors... etc.  You know that each job gets bids.  The cheapest is supposed to be taken.  Contractors inflate their prices because hell, Uncle Sam can pay for it, right?  Only Uncle Sam is really you and me paying our tax dollars for that.  I don't agree with you that Bush has screwed up priorities.  He brought H5N1 into the light, he recommeded billions of dollars be spent to find a vaccine, to get each State to update their Pandemic plans or lack of plans.  He gets an A+++ in my book.

Yeah its supposed to be a Flu Forum and I wish folks would get back to the FLU instead of sticking their political view points in it that causes other people to read on or get frustrated.  I just can't sit an read fibs or bending of truths without feeling to need to correct them or add another viewpoint.

This is supposed to be an Avian Flu Forum - NOT a bash the US government forum!!Angry

Jhetta, this is what disturbed me so much when Dr. Nabarro was giving kudos to Vietnam.  The headline was that no new outbreaks in Vietnam.. not the his warning re: Indonesia and elsewhere.  My own husband asked if the bird flu scare had passed.  UGH!  He reads the sports section!!

I usually take a few rounds when I reply to the firey political stuff, but  I am - best wording here - in favor of working to improve our main organizations now working to combat Avian rather than work against them.

You can check out polls and so forth and come to the conclusion most Americans at this point are unhappy with the current situation.  However, I think realistically, you should understand politicians do have to go back to the public for votes, and are watching (probably even here) the pulse beat of the people far more than you give them credit for.

This is not a political debate arena and our main focus is the to fight the bug. There are various levels of alarm concerning new laws and SOPs being drafted and in place to deal with the Pandemic.

We do not want to be arguing over who owns what and is making how much money, over mass graves and lines of cots filled with people coughing up blood.

Clearly, the first 6 months, and I have confirmed this with virologists and nuts and bolts make the virus serum people, we aren't going to have a weapon. So, we need to reduce the idea of horror film quarantine camps, and teaching troops to police and work with citizens rather than insurgents.

Behind the scenes I see a huge effort by major government organizations to rework the system and you should see this if for nothing else, their own survival. If there is social collapse, these organizations become simply names.

The Pandemic will be everywhere - especially the Middle East. People, such as in Iran will be struggling to stay alive and many of the more ambitious efforts will (unless the opportunity occurs to hit a weakened U.S.) to survive.

You do not even want a situation in which America become divided and because of infighting open as a target.

BF is everyone's enemy. Please focus on it.

Of course it is Bush's fault...when you are President, you get the credit when things go right and the blame when they do not. And, as President, he certainly had access to the best information available at the earliest possible moment and he could be on TV every night telling his fellow Americans how important this is --

Femvet,  you might try this sight -

http://www.cascade-ammo.com/

But, depending where you live,  a gun fair/show might yeild better
results.

In live in central Georgia and always get the best prices at gun
shows.

I am trying to trade a 300 Savage for a decent AK 47 but am not yet
satisified with the offers I have.

Go to a gun show to get your ammo.

Kind of like being a Mother, huh? When they are horrid monsters or things aren't going their way who get's blamed?? You get lots of disapproving looks and tssks from strangers. BUT when they are being angels, do we get the credit? Do people say "you must be a fantastic mother, your children are angels". NOOOOOO. It goes with the territory. If Bush doesn't want the heat, he should have worked at Wal-Mart!

You may not get the government that you personally deserve, and for many thinking people this is a source of sadness and frustration. It does, however, remain true that the electorate will always get the government that it deserves.

Whispering Wind, Glenn 50: I sympathise but very little of what has been said on this thread could be classed as politics. By all means resist the temptation to bicker about the guy you didn't vote for but don't be fooled into thinking of politics as an isolated subject. Politics is everything.

And NO, I don't like Bush and have had Secret Service visits due to comments on BOTH Bush and Clinton.  BOTH along with Bush SENIOR and their ilk are guilty of HIGH TREASON and deserving of:

CONVICTION

Why not post THOUSANDS of credible sources to back up your ridiculous paranoid fantasies?

I tried reason. I tried logic. Sarcasm is more fun.

Usually the guys tell us women to take 3 deep breaths because we are overreacting.  Maybe all you guys should try the same.  Remember the point of this is trying to get people to save their families what are the last few posts accomplishing?  Certainly not that I think.

Hey Brian, I tried that,  I sent three boxes of goodies to some Marines
but they never got it.

The Marine said it was probably because I used the phrase "any soldier"
in the address.   When the pigs who work in the military mail system see
this they tend to steal it, thinking it is for anyone.

Whatever you do,  if you send anything,  use the soldiers name and omit
"any soldier, or any  Marine" in the address.

BTW,  I stilll support a lot of what Hitech has to say and enjoy reading
it.    There is no reason what-so-ever to think that the policies of this
administration is not related to current events,  whether it is his
allowing 911 to just HAPPEN,  or how it will take advantage of a
nasty pandemic.

Power is in their blood,  and awareness is important..

Hmmmmmm.......I could swear I typed in Avian Flu Forum.  These new bifocals aren't worth cr*p.      Oh.....I guess I am in the right place afterall.

Maybe Albert can setup a room for such discussions because I'm starting to loose some respect for those whose information I've respected.  This way, I'll know where all those discussions are located so I can SKIP them rather than have to plow thru all this compost to get to what I came here for.

Thanks........and have a good evening......

The military has disallowed the use of just any soldier or marine etc. That's why you go to the site www.anysoldier.com , select a troop, get the address and the add "any soldier". They will then divvy it up amongst the troops who are not getting packages. I have gotten many letters of thanks and even established some friendships.

I, too would happily support institution of said "small rule". Please, please, please?

If that won't fly, what about that aforementioned "ignore" function? There's enough political chaff going around from some sources, quite long-winded political chaff, I might add, that it's hard to see the posts we're here to find. And that chaff tends to make members of this forum look like a bunch of raving lunatics. Yes, I know that today's raving lunatic is tomorrow's visionary. But one or two such visionaries can kill a forum's credibility, particularly when their visions aren't on topic.

Again, how about a rule, small or otherwise. Isn't that what a moderator/administrator is for?

Getting back to reality rather than paranoid delusions.  You can sprout beans to get all those great vitamins in the green stuff you would be missing.

The duration of any pandemic is largely target dependent. The virus will never go away and it will only downgrade from pandemic status after most people have been infected. The more people who hunker down, the longer it will last.

The length of time the virus is around not a huge concern as long as it has mutated to a non lethal form.
