Today I was coming back home from a weekend in the central mountains for some sky, when i was on the autoroute directed to rome at about 100 KM from the capital on the A25 Autoroute, I have seen someting that freozen my bloood and that i have NEVER seen in my life only later thinking of this I have seen the orrible reality of when nature die.

I was on my car at a speed about 120Km/h when i saw on the route what seemed tensa and tens in fact hundreds black point at a distance of about 100 meter from me, lowered my speed at about 60/kmh and saw that these block thing completly inert on the ground where in fact birds....dead birds all on a space of a few tens of meters on the route, to avoid to run over these dead bird you had to do a slalom wirth the car and that do not even helped much since they where so many of them, but that not all, in the right side of the auotoroute there was MANY MORE OF THEM alive but happarently so sick to be unable to fly anymore so the where just walking on the borders and to the green on the side of the autoroute and this was a full storm of Birds they migh have been many thousands of them.

I talked with my whife and kids about this but i have read on thier eyes already thhe same tought i had, just 5 minuted before that on the radio in the car there was a report of a few birds found dead at a location not much far than 50 KM est from where whe where.

They are dieing in masse and soon they will start to drop from the sky even over cities since they seems to move north we have seens at least 4 storm of birds very big following this direction sout/north as they where trying to flee from someting.

Yes, it is only a matter of time. And if it goes human-to-human transmission, it will be here in the USA a lot sooner.

Tomek, welcome to the group, I am glad you didn't have a accident with all the birds on the  road like that.

I'm very sad to hear this.  I am a bird lover (Parrot), and to hear of all this, makes me worry that we will lose most of our birds, to this horrible flu.  Even if we can stop it from going H2H, this is a huge lose to the planet.  I wonder if any of the birds will survive?

tell him to disinfect his auto and family. The air vents in the car could have let some of the virus in. Go to doctor and get prescriptions for Tamiflu. they will need to take one tablet a day for 6 weeks if they are suspected.

what else can be done?

Let me add this happened in central italy on the autoroute A25, I have not stopped the car i had to slow down considerably due to the high number of bird dead on the road to avoid to run over with the car, but they where so many i think at least a hundred or more dead and thousands more on the side of the autoroute alive but not flying and evidently sick as they looked at least  some of the liek they where barely able to walk.

H5N1 as been confirmed by the media officially in italy now as well.

h5n1 does not have sustained transmission among humans, however, bird to human transmission seems to be fairly robust, and almost seems sustained B2H.  Stay way away from any dead birds.   h5n1 is relatively contagious at this point.

This thing is really spreading like wildfire now.    I think it's time to pull inthe humming bird feeders.

I understand I was inside my car but i would have much better avoided this route if i only know about what was going to find in there..

I am calling the 1500 a number the government placed and will start to acceot call tomorrow for reports about dead birds found over the country.

It is a serius thing now i know, I have seen that and now I am starting to be scared also I have see a number of big Bird storms going northward while i was doing these 100 km to come back home, they all semes to head in the same norther direction as of fleying from someting, this is just a sensation i had.

If you ran over them with your car, perhaps you should disinfect your tires/car to some degree.    Maybe use some sort of bleach/spray.

Roman:  Thank you for coming to our forum and posting your information here.  Please be careful.  Disinfecting the outside of your car would be an excellent idea.  H5N1 is nasty, but in the end it is still just an influenza virus and will be killed by the usual, commonplace disinfectants.  Try just bleach solution, for example.

Are you Italian, living in Ireland?  Or from Poland?  I'm confused.  Best wishes - cupcake mom

Funny with all the thousands of reporters there from all over the world covering the olympics, I bet you will not find one BF story except for the usual government releases.  Democracy is dead. Freedom is not far behind.

4:50 a.m.: Italy's health minister toured parts of southern Italy where six wild swans infected with H5N1 were found as officials sought to allay fears by saying people need only follow simple precautions to keep the virus from spreading. Francesco Storace arrived in Catania, Sicily, and planned to visit the regions of Calabria and Puglia on the Italian mainland where the infected birds were discovered. The visit came a day after the Health Ministry confirmed that test results had come back positive for the H5N1 virus strain on a swan found in Puglia -- the sixth positive result in Italy.

Italy: Don't touch dead birds

Sometimes you have to wonder what our political masters think of our collective intelligence. And sometimes you have to wonder that maybe they're right. Consider the Italian health ministry: Italy Issues Bird Flu Warning.

Responding to the discovery of the deadly H5N1 virus in swans in southern Italy, the government is warning people not to touch sick or dead wild birds, but to seek professional help.

The warning followed a meeting of the emergency response committee of veterinary experts and health officials at the Health Ministry. The meeting was held after five cases of bird flu were confirmed Saturday on Italian territory.

Italy's Health Minister Francesco Storace said it is important not to touch the dead animals.

The health minister said touching dead birds is not necessary. If one is found, it should be reported to the health authorities. Equipped staff, he said, will then be responsible for the removal of the dead bird.

I can't imagine why anyone would think that touching a dead bird is necessary.

Those types of boards are already here.   Scroll down to the bottom of the main page and you will see all of the new forums that were recently created for each individual continent.   You will  also see that there is a forum called "Europe".   Canada  has their own forum now as well.
