Does locking yourself and your family, inside your home not letting anyone in or out during the pandemic make any difference on whether you will get the flu or not?

Hi Drizz.

It's funny you mention that.  Isolation may be the best way to survive it.  This is why we are all doing what is called "preps".  Preps is short for Pandemic Preparations.  This means that we are all accumulating supplies now - before it begins.  Once it starts, the store shelves will most likely be empty.  By doing your preps and buying supplies, this will enable you to stay home when it starts.  Avoiding human contact will be crucuial.

But there is good news for you!  If you get a pneumonia vaccination, there is a good likelihood that your family will do just fine.   A pneumonina vaccination may be your best line of defense.  Again, we are not talking about a flu shot, but a pneumonia shot.

Go to the top of the forum and read the thread called "PNEUMONIA VACCINE LIST".   You will be pleasantly surprised about what you read.  Here is the link for the thread too.

Deej, you have got to be kidding me, right?  Anybody can get a pneumoina shot LOL.  No offense....

Here is your solution if you live in a rural area:

DRIVE 15 MINUTES TO THE NEXT TOWN AND GO TO ANY WALK IN CLINIC.

I'm sorry to be so harsh.  .

But seriously, just drive to the next town if you have to.  ALL walkin clinics love to give vaccinations.  Selling vaccinations is their primary function and is their bread and butter.  Those walkin clinics really try to sell people hard on getting vaccinations because that's how they make money and stay in business, unlike your regular doctor.

As you know, these clinics are everywhere.  Since you live in a rural area and you may have to drive to the next town, perhaps you should look in the phone book first and start calling the clinics ahead of time  to get directions.    If you still can't find a clinic today, then tell me what city you live in and I will find one for you.

wish there was a clinic around- but i still have one more place to try. friend's doc is very liberal with med's and such, i have a call in to his service for an appointment.   by the way, the next town over  does not have a stop light, nor the next one, but the third one has 2 stop lights, and a store... thanks for your concern, and beleive me, i won't give up, and if i can't find anyone to give me the shot, i  will take you up on your offer...

Deej, here is my point.  Even if you have to drive 5 hours away to the next town, then do it.  Maybe pack a lunch and make a day of it.  Or, get up really early tomorrow morning and beat traffic to where ever you need to go.  Even if you have to drive 5 hours to the next town, if you leave at 5:00am, you could be there by 10:00am.  How tough can that be?

Come on Deej.....  There is no reason why you can't confirm by tomorrow 12 noon that you have had the shot.  No matter where you live.

Make sure if you lock yourself in your house that you do not get your mail out of your mailbox or the newspaper.  In 1918 a town thought they escaped the flu until a postman brought in the mail ANDTHE FLU.

Tell them that you have a compromised immune system, if you have had lyme disease, HIV, RSV, lung infection, etc.. try to remember anything! Good Luck, I too ran into the same problem!
