For those not familiar with it, dry preps can be effectively stored in mylar for many years in a low oxygen environment. White rice, dehydrated vegetables, beans and pasta have a shelf life of 8-10 years stored that way at 70 degrees F, while TVP and flour can keep for 15 years+. The materials to do it are cheap and readily available on the internet, and it's relatively easy to do. I've sealed flour, rice, beans, lentils, TVP and sugar without any problems. If I can do it, you can.
I took pics when I sealed some preps last year and posted them on Flickr. I just finished updating the narrative to include a little more detail. I hope this helps simplify the process - I know I had trouble finding an easily understandable explanation when I first looked into it. Don't be afraid to try it - it's a lot easier than you'd think, and will preserve preps bought at today's prices for a long time.

Hey I seen the pictures...do you put duck tape around the lid after your done? Where do you get your buckets? The cheapest I have seen is 8.00....but I suppose if you use Mylar bags you can use really any 5 gal bucket huh? Even if pickles came in it with the Mylar bag you wouldnt have to worry about it right?

   I have a deli near here that sells 5 gallon buckets for $1.50 that used to contain pickles. I passed on them because I was worried about odors. I know in theory that the mylar should stop smells getting in, but having gone to the trouble of ordering all the stuff to do the mylar/O2 absorber thing I didn't want to take a chance and spoil my preps if I was wrong, so I buy my buckets at Walmart - they're about $6 with a lid. Home depot sell their orange buckets for about $5 each, but I found that the lids (which are extra) don't fit as securely as the Walmart ones.
   I did think about duct taping them, but the lids and buckets I use now provide a pretty good seal as is.
   I know some people have posted that they get free buckets from bakeries. Might be worth asking around.
