There's numerous records of her supporting the Tides Foundation, and while the records show that the money she donated only went specifically towards other programs, that's like me sending money to Hamas under the auspices they only use it to support their humanitarian aspects.
There was the "Shove It" mishap. Oops, she wouldn't give up her tax records until after the election. Why was that? "They want four more years of hell!" [Referring to a crowd of Bush supporters chanting 4 more years] "Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good," Heinz Kerry said. "But I don't know that she's ever had a real job I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things." "I'm older, and my validation of what I do is a little bit bigger because I'm older, and I've had different experiences. And it's not a criticism of her. It's just, you know, what life is about" Hmmm. Interesting. So despite the fact that Laura Bush a) Was a public high school teacher for 9 years, until she married George. b) Was a librarian for many more c) And raised two children, Teresa's life experiences somehow make her more attractive to be a first lady? W may not be a great president, or hell, even a good one. But he *IS* far better than John could have ever dreamt of being. The man was nothing but a poser. They should have just nominated Howard "The Scream" Dean. They might have won if they had. |

Gypsy2 - we meet again! I guess neither of us has anything pressing to do tonight. On the socialized vs private medical care argument - I've experienced both first hand. Regarding the socialized system many countries have - yes, there are problems, but I can't tell you how reassuring it is to know that regardless you will be looked after, and it won't bankrupt you in the process. Through my job I'm lucky enough to have good medical coverage for myself and my family here in the States, but it's not without it's fair share of problems. I've walked into hospitals in the UK on three occasions with my wife (a US citizen) while she's been in the throes of an asthma attack and each time I've watched her get whisked away IMMEDIATELY for completely free treatment before any paperwork was ever filled out, and yet under the same circumstances here in the States I've had to wait with her at the ER several times for never less than an hour each visit before she's been seen. One time the two hour wait resulted in her being admitted for five days when they realized it was now too late for the nebulizer treatment we initially requested to do any good.
I just found this article on a local paper's website. Makes interesting reading, but comes as no surprise to me. "SAN DIEGO - Suddenly find yourself in a medical crisis and need an emergency room? Don't hold your breath. In general, patients waited nearly 5.5 hours before being admitted to a hospital bed in the county last year, according to a survey released yesterday. The wait ranged from 3.5 to 17.5 hours. For patients who were treated and discharged without hospitalization, the general wait time was 3.5 hours and the range was 1.5 to 4 hours. Depending on the hospital, 1 percent to 7.5 percent of patients grew tired of waiting and left." And that's without a pandemic. Ouch. |
