Authorities assert 'no bird flu mutation in Thailand' BANGKOK, Aug 10 (TNA) - Thailand's Public Health Ministry has assured the public that the country's anti-bird flu measures are approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and reasserted that there has been no mutation of the H5N1 virus here.

Public Health Minister Pinij Charusombat said that the bird flu virus detected in the country is the H5N1 virus and it has not mutated into another form.

His statement followed a warning by virologist Dr. Prasert Thongcharoen that the world is keeping a close watch on China, Indonesia and Thailand as countries where the H5N1 mutation--if it happens--will likely occur.

Mr. Pinij argued that there was no such a warning from the UN agency. "We regularly report the current situation to the World Health Organization and work with it but the WHO never gave us such a warning."

However, Mr. Pinit conceded that the diagnosis of bird flu was difficult, as there are many suspect cases with flu-like symptoms.

He said that the first lab tests did not detect the H5N1 virus in two bird flu patients who have died recently, but that follow-up lab tests showed that they were infected with bird flu.

Mr. Pinit ordered more research be conducted on these cases for improved diagnosis of avian flu in humans. (TNA)-E004

Dream on, Public "Health" Ministry!  Dr. Niman is finding constant mutation/recombination in the samples from all flu areas, which WHO and all these governments is claiming doesn't happen.  He doesn't cover Vietnam specifically, but no reason to think it is different.

The fact that the people samples have different versions than the bird version is a strong indicator that the threat level is at or near 6, and we are being deliberately lied to on a wholesale level.  I imagine all these high level people misleading themselves with the desperate hope that it really won't take off, or will stay local.   The 5% death rate from regular flu in Thailand is quite possibly the notice of the final escalation (since they aren't testing regular flu without H5N1 positive birds present - which, unfortunately, aren't the real source of the people H5N1).  Nobody knows what is happening in Africa, it could be worse and we'd have no clue.
