I guess it could be some sort of environmental health issue from the flooding but the symptoms  are so close to alpha Covid

On 14 December 2021, the World Health Organization launched an investigation into an unknown disease that has resulted in at least 89 deaths in FangakJonglei StateSouth Sudan.[2]

History[edit]

In early December, 2021, South Sudan's ministry of health reported dozens of deaths due to an unidentified illness.[1] The reports came amidst severe flooding in the region and prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to send rapid response team to collect samples of the disease.[3] Initial samples tested negative for cholera.

December 21, 2021 (JUBA) – South Sudan reintroduced again some restrictions including partial lockdown to curb the spread of COVID 19 in the country.

The National Taskforce imposed a ban on social gatherings and entertainment sites as well as a night curfew starting 10 pm to 6 am.

In a statement on Tuesday, the task force stated that the wearing of a face mask is mandatory and citizens are required to observe social distancing while avoiding a handshake.

Further, it pointed that the recent surge of respiratory disease requires such restrictions.

“The national taskforce is hereby once again putting in place necessary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as follows, enforcing lockdown with effect from 21st December 2021 to 10th January 2022,” he announced on Tuesday.

DJ  Omicron is believed to have a mice-link. Cows can get corona-virus infections https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus#Farm_animals or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus#Farm_animals ;

Infection in animals

Coronaviruses have been recognized as causing pathological conditions in veterinary medicine since the 1930s.[19] They infect a range of animals including swine, cattle, horses, camels, cats, dogs, rodents, birds and bats.[126] The majority of animal related coronaviruses infect the intestinal tract and are transmitted by a fecal-oral route.[127] Significant research efforts have been focused on elucidating the viral pathogenesis of these animal coronaviruses, especially by virologists interested in veterinary and zoonotic diseases.[128]

Farm animals

Coronaviruses infect domesticated birds.[129] Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), a type of coronavirus, causes avian infectious bronchitis.[130] The virus is of concern to the poultry industry because of the high mortality from infection, its rapid spread, and its effect on production.[126] The virus affects both meat production and egg production and causes substantial economic loss.[131] In chickens, infectious bronchitis virus targets not only the respiratory tract but also the urogenital tract. The virus can spread to different organs throughout the chicken.[130] The virus is transmitted by aerosol and food contaminated by feces. Different vaccines against IBV exist and have helped to limit the spread of the virus and its variants.[126] Infectious bronchitis virus is one of a number of strains of the species Avian coronavirus.[132] Another strain of avian coronavirus is turkey coronavirus (TCV) which causes enteritis in turkeys.[126]

Coronaviruses also affect other branches of animal husbandry such as pig farming and the cattle raising.[126] Swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV), which is related to bat coronavirus HKU2, causes diarrhea in pigs.[133] Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a coronavirus that has recently emerged and similarly causes diarrhea in pigs.[134] Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), which is a member of the species Alphacoronavirus 1,[135] is another coronavirus that causes diarrhea in young pigs.[136][137] In the cattle industry bovine coronavirus (BCV), which is a member of the species Betacoronavirus 1 and related to HCoV-OC43,[138] is responsible for severe profuse enteritis in young calves.[126]

DJ; https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/south-sudan/ or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/south-sudan/ South Sudan reporting an explosion of CoViD cases 78 last week, this week 927 an increase of 1,088% but maybe they managed to increase testing...

Usk, I think the South Sudan situation may need watching....https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/africa/africa-all-other-diseases/930605-south-sudan-moh-dispatches-medical-team-to-investigate-fangak-strange-disease#post932626 or https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/africa/africa-all-other-diseases/930605-south-sudan-moh-dispatches-medical-team-to-investigate-fangak-strange-disease#post932626  info there gives the impression some disease did break out-killing most likely 100+ people but the disease was at its peak oktober, november ? Or still ongoing ?

 • On 8 December, a follow up mission by MOH Rapid Response Team was deployed for further investigation. According to the investigation report, he team could not verify the 89 deaths reported by the local authorities. However, the investigation found an upsurge of malaria cases in the area. The team reported occurrence of illness in the community presenting with symptoms and signs of malaria (fever, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite). A situation aggravated by the flooding which reduces access to health facilities. In one health facility, out of 162 cases, 79 (49%)•were reported as malaria RDT positive.

 • Furthermore, the investigation highlighted that communities in New Fangak are served by Pakaan PHCC which is inaccessible during flooding season. The only one health service point in New Fangak is not adequate to serve all the population.

 • It is worth noting that, this time of the year, malaria is expected to surge and if not promptly treated, it may lead to excess deaths.

 • The Ministry of Health continues to work with the state and county authorities and partners to ensure flood-affected populations in Fangak and other affected counties have access to the much-needed health services.

 • Ultimately, the Ministry of Health would like to reassure the public that the reported illness is upsurge of malaria due to flooding situation. And all measures are being taken to improve health service delivery in Fangak County.

If CoViD managed to spread in animals-new possible variants could be showing up....But more info needed !

After the initial report on here a week ago I've been trying to find out more but there's very little being said about it. What i did note was the incredible levels of environmental pollution in this region, and I did wonder about ground water pollution and subsequent poisoning.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

There are too many "other" things going on here to assume its anything but something local causing this.  Just my opinion, but I don't see this as concerning.

I tried to find follow up info on this yesterday and saw a report that said it is only striking down the young (under 14) and the elderly.
