Anyone who lives in the area of Orting, Washington. I want to invite you to a community preparation meeting. My father coordinated with the police chief, fire department, health department and local newspapers and, I believe, each will be sending a representative to speak to the community about emergency preparation and avian flu. It is going to happen this Wednesday(7-12-06) at seven-o-clock at the Majestic View Estates retirement community. Many of you know more about the global situation than I do and your knowledge and advice would be invaluable to help the people who attend, most of whom are retired, make the decision to get prepared. I plan on passing out copies of the HHS family preparation checklist and my dad will have a sheet, where people can sign up, for us to send them more information. |

Focusing on the obvious will lead to disaster. It's what you don't aniticipate that gets you killed.

I lived in orting when I was a boy in 1970-1973
My mother was good friends with the chief of police Mr Evans skip Davies. Real good man, who later became the sherief of Tacoma for some time. I will show up at the metting live just over the hill from Orting in the neibor hood where all are to evac in the event of a lahar. Good to see more in my neibor hood are doing more preps, less people nocking at my door. Kelly sarry for the bad news on your house, do believe it is a total loss. Atleast you have home owners insurance. That will not be the case when bird flu hits. |

Thank you, but my dad deserves all the credit. I just got him started on prepping; he took it to the next level.
rutsuyasun, I didn't realize there was another forum under my state. Unless... Do you mean the one about the upcoming news article in "The Olympian"? If so, no. I thought more people would read this if it got it's own topic.
Joseph, I believe my dad is also a coordinator for the Lahar Evacuation stuff. He's gotten really busy since he retired.

The state forums were moved to the "white" site http://www.pandemichelp.org/ I invite you to please post any and all Washington state related stuff there where us Washingtonians will read it. Right now, things are quiet here and when things start to heat up, our site will go ballistic. So thanks for your post and all your good work. D |

If you go to the "white" site, URL above, West Virginia is just below Washington in the state list. Post away! D |

I attended the meeting at Majestic View Estates Retirement Community in Orting tonight. My neighbor, Joseph, also attended. I have a lot of information from the meeting and how other communities in Pierce County can arrange the same. I highly recommend it. Very good information. The woman conducting the presentation/meeting was the Program Coordinator, Health Planning from the Department of Emergency Management for Pierce County. She was saying all of the things that we had hoped we would be hearing. Prepare, it will be here this fall (in birds from Alaska). She admitted that they still just do not have all of the answers but best to prepare and get the mind set that we are on our own.
I spoke to (who I believe was Fenwulfr's father) a very nice elderly man at the meeting. He said that he volunteers a lot with the Sheriff's Department in Orting, etc. He suggested a PC-NET'S Program for communities. I have that information as well, and Shawn may have been a representative of this program, but I am not certain about that. The man gave me a name and contact information for the PC-NET Program for Communities. It's a first response type system, where members are contacted immediatley if an emergency exists so they can evaculate, and/or take the proper precautions. Sounds like a great deal to me. I was given a contact name for the PC-NET Program. I am not sure if I can or should post contact information on this forum, so I will error on the side of caution and not to that here.
Albert, perhaps you could tell me how to get this information to the forum and/or to indivduals, or perhaps I could give it to you and you could do that. Thanks. Peace.

Your welcome. I am glad to be of assistance.
I have been dealing with my own small emergency recently (water pipe chewed through by some sort of animal some time ago that went unnoticed until damage to our floor became obvious) so I haven't been posting or involved much here recently. I am getting some experience, however, dealing without water and it's has been an experience. Only three days without but that's enough. Joseph was kind enough to allow us to shower at his place. We managed and I was able to teach my daughter how to wash dishes without running water. LOL. Still waiting to see what the insurance adjuster says, Friday. Thank goodness we had prepared for a disaster and had lots of bottled water on hand. I guess it's true, everything does happen for a reason and we can take something positive away with us from experiences that negatively impact our lives..even temporarily. Thank you..your welcome again. Take care. Peace.

I was very surprised by how knowledgable and informative Shawn turned out to be. I was a little afraid that he was going to try pulling the wool over our eyes and down-playing the significance of what's going on. But to hear say, repeatedly, that we are on the brink of this disaster gave me heart. I want to try organizing more meetings with retirement communities and other pre-established groups. Maybe the "Eagles" or "Elks" would be a good place to start. I'm stepping up my routine here at work. Hopefully, I'm able to get more people to take this thing seriously.

Hi Guys! Haven't visited here for more than a month but was on drudgereport.com and saw the latest bird flu news...
I am up in the Bothell/Mill Creek area and looking for anyone else that I can contact. How do I contact the Snohomish County counterpart that was at your meeting? Do you have a number - anything?
Excellent work co-ordinating such an event.

Hey you! Glad you're back. Pop over to the "white" forum http://www.pandemichelp.org/ to Washington state. There's a lot of info with links all over the state. Hopefully you will find what you're looking for. I'm also hoping todays Washington posters here will also post there. It's really important to support the Washington site as we expect it to really get buzzin' when TSHTF and people will be accessing it a lot. Please also include any postings you think would be helpful for us Washingtonians. D |

The contact information for the PC-NET PROGRAM (Pierce County-Neighorhood Emergency Team Program) is as follows:
bunelso 1 @co.pierce.wa.us (email)
I also received another name and phone number as contact for planning this event for your neighborhoods, as well. That is as follows:
Barbara Nelson (PC-NET) 253-708-2168 This is a great program that is sponsored by Pierce County for neighborhoods. The program is offered throughout Pierce County and is designed to provide citizens with the skills, knowledge and tools to be able to respond to an emergency in their own neighborhoods.
Avian Flu Presentation:
When I attended the Meeting in Orting, Shawn McCallister, Program Coordinator - Health Planning, was the presenter. She gave me her business card and here is the information so you can request this presentation for your own communities:
Pierce County Department of Emergency Management
2501 South 35th Street
Tacoma, WA 98409-7405
Phone: 253-798-7542
Cell: 253-405-0811
Fax: 253-798-3307
She did a great job and I was very pleased with this presentation and the information that she shared. This is a must do event. Thanks. Good luck to all. Peace.
P.S. This has also been posted on the white pages for Washington State under the Emergency Management Link. |
