I live in the northeast and have been planting vegetables that are perennial- they will come back every year even if you don't do anything to them. So far I have:
Rhubarb
Asparagus
Multiplier onions (like regular store onions but they multiply)
"Walking" onions (scallions that reproduce and spread)
Jerusalem artichoke (looks like a sunflower but makes a root like a potato)
Dandelion greens
Horseradish

I've heard kale will self seed so am going to try that too.

Any other ideas? I have a normal garden and fruit/nut bushes and trees but I love the idea of a food supply that just looks like "weeds" to the untrained eye.

How do you put up your asparagus.  If you freeze it, do you blanch it first?  Thanks.

How do you know if an onion is a Multiplier onion? I've not seen any around here. Where did you get them?
