since i have been sick  twice this season already- after taking many precautions, can you tell me how the bird flu is spread. thru fluids. yes, can it linger on a door handle, if so, how long.  todays news has me worried.  i have a lot of catching up to do and i have tried to read as much as i can, but time does seem to be slipping away.  so, for people who know very little, how about a quick lesson and a very basic list of must haves.  funds are tight and time ? who knows ?  some basic things to do that i can incorporate into my daily life- habits, things that i can pickup at the corner store. anything...

I agree with Deej. Let's get some practical info -- even if it is last minute -- out there for folks. That way, folks who are just coming to the site, will have a place to start. Any other ideas? I know that I've only been really concerned about this for about 6 weeks. Even though I have somewhat of a head start, I still don't have as much done as I would like -- especially with today's news of more clusters. Guess I'd better get some more on-line ordering done and some more trips to the grocery stores.

Also info for folks who have very little resources for stocking up. While my budget isn't as tight as some, I still feel like some bill is going to go unpaid! -- Libby

Deej, I am preparing to take two of my babies to obedience lessons, will be home around 9 EST, will start a thread then if it hasn't been done by someone else by then.

BTW: H5N1 has been shown to be disturbingly long lived, especially on porous surfaces and colder temperatures.
