Officials have announced the three presumptive positive COVID-19 cases in New Mexico, the first confirmed cases in the state.
Two of the cases are a husband and wife in Socorro County, both in their 60s, who had recently traveled to Egypt. They are at home in isolation. The third case is a Bernalillo County woman in her 70s who had recently traveled to the New York City area. She is also isolated at home.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and state health officials will be holding a news conference at 11 a.m.

Well that was too fast. 4th case just announced, in my county. No info other than a woman in her 60's who traveled to New York. I'll edit when more info is available.
I know that this will affect previously planned and ongoing events, but right now public health is the first consideration. New Mexico is not going to wait as long as some other states to make hard decisions about this pandemic – we are going to do everything we can to be ahead of the curve.
Know that there are exemptions from the public health order – they include all educational institutions, airports and mass transit, malls and retail stores, shelters, offices and businesses, courthouses, child-care centers, health care facilities and other congregate care facilities, and places of worship.

New Mexico announces four more positive COVID-19 cases
SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials on Friday morning announced four more New Mexico residents who tested presumptive positive for COVID-19, adding to the six presumptive positive tests earlier this week.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
A Bernalillo County man in his mid-50s with close household contact with a previous presumptive positive resident. He is at home in isolation.
A Bernalillo County man in his 80s with close household contact with a previous presumptive positive resident. He is hospitalized.
A Bernalillo County woman in her mid-70s with close household contact with a previous presumptive positive resident. She is at home in isolation.
A Santa Fe County woman in her late 20s with recent travel to New York. She is at home in isolation.
The other six presumptive positive tests in New Mexico were:
A Santa Fe County woman in her 50s with recent international travel to Italy.
A Socorro County husband and wife both in their 60s with known recent international travel to Egypt.
A woman in her 70s in Bernalillo County with known recent travel to the New York City area.
A Santa Fe County woman in her 60s with known recent travel to the New York City area.
A Bernalillo County woman in her 40s. The Department of Health is investigating a possible travel link.
The New Mexico Department of Health has active investigations into each of the presumptive positive patients, which includes contact-tracing and swabs of symptomatic individuals who have had contact with the positive cases.
The governor and Department of Health are urging New Mexicans to:
Remain home from work or school if you are sick
Avoid all non-essential travel to affected out-of-state areas; and exercise extreme caution with all out-of-state travel
Remain home (“self-isolate”) if you are sick and call the Department of Health at 1-855-600-3453 if you are exhibiting any of the symptoms of COVID-19
Those symptoms include fever, cough or trouble breathing
And continue taking precautionary steps to protect your health and the health of others, such as:
Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Clean “high-touch” surfaces daily with regular household cleaners
Avoid sharing personal household items
Additional advisories, guidance and orders will follow as conditions warrant.

All restaurants, bars, breweries, eateries and other food establishments in New Mexico will not be able to operate at more than 50 percent maximum occupancy or 50 percent of seating capacity.
That is part of a change to the public health emergency the state ordered on Thursday, and a further restriction aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, a type of coronavirus, in New Mexico. As of Sunday, https://nmpoliticalreport.com/2020/03/15/four-more-positive-covid-19-cases-bring-states-total-to-17/" style="color: rgb(46, 188, 192); text-decoration: none; - 17 people in New Mexico had tested positive for COVID-19 .
The order by Secretary of Health Kathy Kunkel will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.
The order also says that tables and booths will not be able to seat more than six people and that all occupied tables and booths must be separated by at least six feet.
“The best thing New Mexicans can do right now is self-isolate and limit person-to-person contact,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “We all have to pull together in this effort. Keep washing your hands with soap and water regularly. Stay at home. Remember your neighbors and buy only what you need when you are shopping.”
The state already banned “mass gatherings” of more than 100 people, but this did not include restaurants or bars. It instead applied to events in arena, theaters, auditoriums or stadiums, most of which are one-time events.
The order also exempted retail stores, grocery stores, courthouses, correction and detention facilities, hospitals and other areas where a large amount of people could gather.
The state also closed all public schools for three weeks, beginning Monday.
This change by the state follows a nationwide trend as governors tighten restrictions. Four states, California, Ohio, Illinois and Massachusetts, https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/15/coronavirus-bars-restaurants-closed-states/5055634002/" style="color: rgb(46, 188, 192); text-decoration: none; - have already ordered restaurants and bars to be closed . Other states have implemented similar restrictions as New Mexico.
Testing has accelerated over recent days, and more positive tests are expected.
The state asks for people to remain home as much as possible and only leave their houses for essential outings.
The state also says anyone who is showing signs of COVID-19, which includes fever, cough or trouble breathing, should call the DOH at 1-855-600-3453.

something disturbing me, since the first two groups of tests came back positive that were related to travel, they have admitted that information from the recent ones. And the media doesn't seem to be asking or caring.
so we may, or may not, have community spread going on. We have no idea.
I'm in Santa Fe county, which is very large. Quite a few cities in the county, and we have no idea where any of the cases are from.
SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials on Tuesday announced additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
A man in Taos County in his 50s
A man in Santa Fe County in his 40s

Technophobe: You were indeed right. They announced one community spread case today, so immediately put new restrictions into effect.
+++++++++++++
State health officials have announced today that five more people in New Mexico have tested positive for COVID-19, currently totaling 28 positive tests statewide. More information here: http://bit.ly/3b7WsF0
What does this mean? It underlines what we have been emphasizing every day: New Mexicans need to stay home when at all possible. The ONLY way to mitigate further spread of COVID-19 is to limit all person-to-person contact. PLEASE stay home.

I just can't bring myself to post these every day. Sigh. BIG jump today - 55 new cases. Total now at 191. ( I also can't deal with editing on here, click the link to read it easily)
New Mexico experienced a big jump in COVID-19 cases reported today: 55 additional positives, https://cv.nmhealth.org/2020/03/27/updated-new-mexico-covid-19-cases-now-at-191/" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - bringing the state's total to 191 . The state has tested 9,387 people. There remain no new deaths following the https://cv.nmhealth.org/2020/03/25/new-mexico-covid-19-update-one-death/" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - one reported death last Sunday .
As of today's report, 17 people have been hospitalized and according to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in a https://www.facebook.com/GovMLG/videos/877285956090614/" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - public Facebook live address at 5 pm, six of them are in critical care or on ventilators.
Those 17 people may include ones who who tested positive for COVID-19 out of state but currently hospitalized in New Mexico, but does not include New Mexicans who tested positive for COVID-19 and may have been transferred to a hospital out of state.
"That's a really important data point," she said, "because it tells us younger people who are more mobile, who are maybe not engaged as productively in social distancing as some other populations, continue to be potentially a high risk factor… I want us all to think about how we might do that better."
Santa Fe had seven new reported cases today, bringing the total to 29. Two new counties, Roosevelt and Valencia, now have cases as well. The full breakdown of new cases and total cases can be found below.
New Mexico's latest figures come as the US overall experiences 85,000 cases in all 50 states. The New York Times today released https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - publicly its data in an effort "to broaden understanding of the virus's toll."
Lujan Grisham also issued an https://www.governor.state.nm.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/MLG_EO_2020_013.pdf" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - executive order today that requires people arriving by airplane to the state to self-isolate for at least 14 days to help combat the spread of COVID-19. Those who fail to do so "will be subject to forced isolation or quarantine by the New Mexico Health Department," a news release says.
The order comes, reportedly, because "many" of New Mexico's COVID-19 cases have come from instate or international travel, according to the order. Health officials have previously stated that both Bernalillo and Santa Fe County have community spread, meaning cases in which there is no known cause such as travel or contact with someone who has the virus. The governor's press secretary was initially unable to provide a number or percentage for travel-related cases, but those statistics were made available during Lujan Grisham's live update.
Approximately 45% of the current cases are travel-related, and about 20% are related to those original travel cases. Another 20% are under investigation and approximately 15% appear to be community spread.
"That's the number that gives us real pause," Lujan Grisham said, noting that an infected person could then infect another 2.5 people within a few days and as many as 400 in the course of 30 days.
"That means we get to a place where we have insufficient healthcare resources to meet the needs of the individuals who would require health and hospital care and support," she said. "That's this whole effort is just making sure don't get beyond that capacity."
As difficult as the situation is now, Lujan Grisham said she expects it to worsen in early April, and that she would have more information next week.
"Having your numbers double in three days is not the best sign we could see," she said regarding today's uptick in cases, noting that it's still not as rapid as some of the virus epicenters in the US. "It means there's more social distancing that must be done and it means I need more information about the rate of transmission, the number of positive cases and where they're coming from." Over the weekend and into next week, she said, "Everyone in New Mexico should expect…we will have sufficient data to come to you and show you by the numbers where we are at bending that curve and what we're doing about protecting capacity and what we're doing, all of us, to protect every single New Mexican.
Today's travel order acknowledges the high rate of cases in the state traced to people who have traveled. It reads: "Because some individuals infected with COVID-19 are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, travelers may be unaware they are carrying the virus. For this reason, persons arriving in New Mexico's airports must self-isolate for a period of time sufficient to ensure that the public health and safety is not jeopardized."
Under the order, people who are self-isolating can only leave their place of lodging to receive medical care. Family or household members can visit them, but then also need to self-isolate for at least two weeks.
The governor also has directed the Department of Health to take necessary measures to ensure the screening and isolation of air travelers coming into New Mexico, including executing temporary holds of individuals or groups, obtaining court orders to require isolation and imposing civil and/or criminal penalties. The order does not apply to airline employees or people performing public safety or public health functions, such as "military personnel, federal employees, employees of national defense contractors, emergency first responders, health care workers or employees of shipping and freight companies.
Other states have passed similar measures for domestic travel, such as Alaska, Florida and Hawaii.
The governor and Education Secretary Ryan Stewart also announced today that public schools will be https://www.sfreporter.com/news/2020/03/27/schools-out/" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - closed through the end of this academic year .
New Mexicans are under https://cv.nmhealth.org/2020/03/23/march-23-public-health-order-faqs/" style="box-sizing: border-box; background-color: transparent; color: rgb(227, 30, 37); text-decoration: none; - stay-at-home orders .
