I am in two minds about the following. Normally I would suspect foul play (doing something privately, while saying something else publicly), but then I would have thought that by mid-February the dire situation was obvious - so should he be congratulated on fore-sight?  

I think the information of up coming problems was available to anyone here, so it could hardly be a state secret!

If Fox is demanding he go, was the crime that his actions did not back up what the President was saying at that time?  That is the crime of independent thought, and not blindly following the party line.
