The moral of this news item seems to be "Cutting corners to reopen business when covid-19 is concerned can cost those businesses seriously.

The scene. "At least 41 passengers and crew on a Norwegian cruise ship have tested positive for Covid-19. "

What the company said:

Quote "A preliminary evaluation shows a breakdown in several of our internal procedures," he added. "The only responsible choice is to suspend all expedition sailings."

What might have gone wrong:

Quote Another 32 crew members on board were found to be infected. The staff who tested positive included German, French and Filipino citizens.

They were tested for the virus before leaving their home countries but did not quarantine before starting work on the ship, Hurtigruten said.

Almost 180 passengers were allowed to depart the ship on Friday, leaving the authorities scrambling over the weekend to locate and test those who had been on board.

Trying to save money by not paying for the workers to stay in quarantine, has lead to the shutting down of the whole operation, and to the police investigating the company.

Thinking cruising is dead and gone.....

I can't see it recovering for a long time,

Unless everyone is tested before boarding, and then would they be allowed off at different ports.....

And that won't happen....

Ergo.....

The losses will be in trillions......

In our local city one of the big employers is a shipyard building gigantic cruise liners.  I am sure that city will be in for very high unemployment.

.... But if they bring back the car ferries from Sweden to UK then I will be interested.
