That is a lot in such a short time but its on the decline now.  I wonder why this wasn't publicized more?  I am still worried but I swear it seems the world is just done with it.  Going to be an interesting couple of months....especially what has been going on in florida they should see a huge surge.

You are probably right again.  A third wave is breaking over Europe as we speak.  Waves do tend to spread out.

In a battle between the virus and the vaccines, it's going to be a close call.  The variants are getting more able to work around the vaccines.  Don't think that the war is going to be a knockout for the virus.  But, I see a constant battle between the two.

I believe Biden crew is telling cdc not to publish the real numbers   Testing sites near me are still going strong and hospitalizedcovidisgoingup

If true, he wouldn't be the first POTUS to tell his administration to lie...

I'd like to think it's not true, but  540,000 fatalities reported by the CDC makes me think it isn't.   Not sure what to make of the 20,000 difference between the CDC and World-o-meter.  I'm not sure where world-o-meter gets its numbers from.

Although I trust Biden about a thousand* times more than his predecessor, the old adage about politicians still applies:

"How do you tell if a politician is lying?"

"His lips are moving...."

*That might be an understatement.

Worldometers includes some of the US overseas possession that CDC does not include like Puerto Rico (2,100 deaths). Guam (134 deaths) US Virgin Isles (25 deaths), and Northern Mariana Islands (2 deaths).

Also included in the Worldometer are some Federal figures that may or may not be included in the figures for individual States, such as US military, Veteren Affairs, Federal Prisons. the Navajo Nation, and the early deaths on Cruise ships.   I have not  been able to find out (from the public web sites) if these last groups are being double counted by Worldometers, or are being missed by CDC, although it was clear at the beginning that CDC did not include deaths of US citizens on cruise ships outside of US waters.*

The table of data can be seen here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

However, given the scale of deaths I do not think that the difference between the Worldometer figures and CDC is of high significance.   But this does show how  statistics can be changed by what definition is used.

* I could make an arguement for either including or excluding, so I do not think either choice is being dishonest.

EdwinSm One could look at excess deaths (for the US or at https://www.euromomo.eu/ or https://www.euromomo.eu/ - https://www.euromomo.eu/ ) but that includes also deaths from heatwaves etc... This pandemic is causing excess deaths by not getting treatment in time, not detecting problems in time, a stop on some other vaccinations etc. So the 200,000 US Covid deaths+ in 2021 in excess deaths may translate to a much higher number...

(But bad winter weather also caused an increase in excess US deaths etc...). Here in NL the excess deaths statistics went below average from time to time during the pandemic. A-Less spread of other infectious disease, B-Most vulnarable did get less outside-those are also more vulnarable in traffic etc ! C-At a certain point the "most vulnarables have died"-so bringing down statistics and now D-The most vulnarable (both in age and job) did get vaccinated.

It may get harder to make an "educated guess" on excess/covid deaths ratio. Maybe in sme countries during this pandemic 1 Covid death did see 1 non-Covid death...maybe in Brazil now the ratio may be even worse...

its especially concerning now that there has been several confirmations that vaccinated people were sick with it again.  Doesn't seem immunity lasts long at all.  Luckily it does seem to keep the virus less severe, for now.  ugh.

There can be several explanations for that, Roni, which are not indicative of fading immunity.

The person getting vaccinated is already incubating the disease,

The vaccine itself does not prevent all infections, but the good news is, it prevents all fatal ones.

The twice-sufferer had immunity problems already (HIV, Immune suppressing drugs, post viral damage, etc.).

Or the nasty one, it was a new variant not covered.

#4 is the one I worry about.  I think it's very likely that each of these explanations fit for a portion of the cases.

Well I am fully vaccinated.  I had blood drawn last July that showed no antibodies so have no idea if I actually ever got an asymptomatic version but I do have asthma so I feel like I would have known.  Although, we went to an outdoor wedding, vegas and several other camping trips, son played football, etc.  So its hard to believe I never caught it.  But anyways, I am fully vaccinated with Phizer and its been over 2 full weeks, so I was not incubating one.  We have nothing planned until the summer so we'll see what happens.  My immunity should last at least 3 months.  Also my in laws both in their 60's just hit a full 2 weeks immunity and they haven't left the house.  Next weekend they are going to the casino here in Colorado.  He also has parkinson's.  So it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out now that more and more are getting the shots.  Fingers crossed for all good news going forward!
