According to a Reuters tally, it took more than a year for the global coronavirus death toll to reach 2 million. The next 1 million deaths were added in about three months.

DJ-https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ has the global number of deaths now at close to 2,880,000. But defenitions differ a lot. The real number of pandemic deaths-including Covid19 and other deaths of people who would be alive if there was not a pandemic may be much higher.

One million extra deaths in three months has to be related to variants-and the number of deaths very likely will explode. Many countries do not have the means to get enough protection via NPI-so countries with large populations like India, Brazil, Phillipines, Iran, Turkey, may see a sharp increase in deaths.

It would be very good news if the global number of deaths would be below 5 million per june 1.

The one million (officially recorded) deaths in three months is of great concern, especially with all the under-reporting.
