'Pfizer sends billions in profit away via the Netherlands'
Vaccine manufacturer Pfizer earns billions from corona vaccines purchased by governments, reports the research platform Follow the Money. The pharmaceuticals' vaccines are partly developed thanks to research from universities and with tax money. According to the platform, Pfizer hardly pays tax and in the Netherlands not at all.

According to journalist Henk Willem Smits of Follow the Money, these are enormous amounts. "The annual profit that the Dutch company makes is between 10 and 20 billion dollars," he told BNR Nieuwsradio. Pfizer has an office park in Capelle aan den IJssel with annual turnover of more than 36 billion euros. This makes it one of the fifteen largest companies in the Netherlands measured in turnover. Smits speaks of "a gigantic letterbox company".

Pfizer says it will abide by all rules and regulations. “We do business in more than 150 countries around the world,” a spokesperson told Follow the Money. "At all times, and wherever we operate, Pfizer complies with all accounting and tax laws and pays all taxes due."

But according to Follow the Money there is something to be said about it. "The construction chosen by Pfizer looks like the company really wants to go all the way when it comes to paying as little tax as possible."
