Double standard

The United States and other developed countries are being criticized for not providing more vaccines and other resources to poorer countries. These critics ignore the fact that India, one of the biggest producers of vaccine, has stopped exporting vaccines to poorer countries.

I don't blame the Indian government for prioritizing their own citizens over foreigners. I do object to criticizing the US government for doing the same thing. No responsible government will allow its own citizens to die due to lack of a critical resource that it allocates to foreigners. Expecting otherwise is just plain stupid.

COVID-19 and Children

Most children are not vaccinated. Yet, mask and social distancing rules are being relaxed. The assumption seems to be that children don't get seriously ill from COVID-19.

This is not true, especially with regard to the newer strains of virus. The new strains have proven to be very infectious in the absence of vaccination and to cause serious disease and death in children. Parents would be wise to take extra precautions to protect their children until they can be vaccinated.

Vaccine booster shots

We don't know how long our current vaccinations will last before the protection they offer wanes. We do know that there are newer strains of SARS-2 that may partially escape vaccination. How soon will booster shots that protect against these strains be ready? What are the plans for delivering them to the entire American public?

I would rather hear about this from Drs. Fauci and Walensky than Captain Obvious's instructions to the Indian government that they need to vaccinate their people. I think they know that already. What I want to know is, when will the US be ready to vaccinate its people against the new strains of virus?
