I was listening to a scientist last year when long covid was first being fully acknowledged and he said that just like the aftermath of Polio in the 1950's, in the future we'll have a sector of society who are partially disabled as a result of long covid. 

It's a serious condition and I have a friend in Ireland with it. Very debilitating.
