11:30 a.m.: Swiss chip maker STMicroelectronics and Singapore medical-diagnostic firm Veredus Laboratories are developing a diagnostic-test kit for bird flu and other flu viruses, the companies said. The test, which produces results within about an hour, is expected to be ideal for locations such as airports in identifying flu types in humans. It is slated to be available in the fall.
