I was wondering if anyone has heard ANYTHING about when experts studying the bird flu believe it might start?? I've heard one person announce that they didn't believe there would be  a pandemic in 2006. has anyone else heard this?  I know it's impossible to predict accurately, but has anyone heard when scientists' opinions are on this????

I've heard everything from not this year to within the next couple of months. I think that anyone who is claiming that they KNOW when it's going to start is full of crap. Nobody knows!

muskrat,  where is that quote from? Is that regarding BF, or a pandemic in general? I've heard that quote numerous times, but it was regarding another pandemic in the world.

It was said by one of big wigs..why do they have such hard names to spell....and I got that about a year ago..has been on my fridge ever since the first time I say it..I also have if ;

I've heard the quote as well and it was made in regards to a future pandemic, not specifically H5N1.  The key is to be prepared for any type of disaster.

I agree that no one know with any certainty when a pandemic will begin, and I believe that we should all try to be prepared in the event of any disaster.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything at all regarding when experts believe a pandemic will start. Has there been any scientists or researchers who have given their opinion to this? There are so many people studying this , and who have indepth knowledge and experience with virology,  but I have not been able to locate any sources that give any range of time for the start of a pandemic.

If anyone hears anything please post!

Jackson,

You will not hear or read any expert worth his/her salt declaring WHEN the pandemic will start.  But what many are now saying, publicly, is that all but the last piece is in place for there to be a pandemic of H5N1. 

That last piece is SUSTAINED human-to-human transmission of the virus.  H5N1 may never acquire that ability...or it may have acquired it this afternoon. 

We will know when it happens and not until then.
