A black day with this news,  I guess that this will spread with devastating results.

Two Rohingya refugees have tested positive for coronavirus in the world’s largest refugee camp, located in Bangladesh.

These are the first confirmed cases among the refugees in Cox's Bazar, according to a doctor working for the government's Rohingya Refugee Repatriation Commission.

Officials told the BBC that those infected were now being treated in isolation.

About 1,900 other refugees who may have contacted them were being isolated for tests.

One million Rohingya refugees are living in crowded camps in Cox's Bazar after fleeing persecution in neighbouring Myanmar (Burma).

The camps have been under lockdown since 14 March.

There are darker days ahead for these poor people.  It's going to spread through the camp like wildfire.

It has taken about two weeks for the first death to appear after the first case.  Official case numbers are on the low side, so may be it is contained (or may be, but I hope not, they are not testing widely)-

Officials in Bangladesh say a 71-year-old man has become the first Rohingya person living in the refugee camps in the south-east to die of coronavirus.

A health official said the victim died in an isolation centre run by the medical charity MSF.  He was from Kutupalong, the largest of the camps, in Cox's Bazar district bordering Myanmar.

So far 31 Rohingya refugees have been confirmed to have coronavirus in the most densely populated refugee camp in the world.

Nearly a million Rohingya Muslims who fled violence in Myanmar are living in Bangladesh.

....I know......I was trying to put a positive slant on the news.....but it seems too many countries are giving up (or never really) trying to contain it. Camps are one place it could rip through, with tight accomodation and limited health care and limited sanitation any IFR (Infection Fatality Rate) could be horrendous.  Just like death rates for measles in camps is so much higher than elsewhere.

Nearly a month since the first reported case, but only 35 cases and now a total of three deaths ---- these numbers seem very low for a refugee camp with over 1 million people.  To put the figures in perspective:- If the rates to population numbers was similar to the USA then there should be 100 times more deaths reported than there has been, and nearly 6,000 cases.

I can think of two factors that could count for the low numbers 1) it took longer to reach the camp than it did most countries, 2) lack of testing.

The first case was confirmed in mid-May and 35 infections have now been reported.

Authorities have been isolating various blocks within the camps to try to prevent an outbreak.
