Not sure if this is bird flu as "H5N1 is not confirmed in the blood"...... what do you guys think of that statement??
here's the article
ST. PETERSBURG, April 4 (Itar-Tass) -- The first human flu death of this season in Russia has been registered in Chelyabinsk, a source at the National Flu Center in St. Petersburg told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. An 18-year-old Chelyabinsk resident was taken to hospital with a severe form of human flu exacerbated with pneumonia. Three days later the patient with immune deficiency died. “Laboratory tests did not confirm H5N1 bird flu virus in his blood,” the source said. According to the center, a flu epidemic in Russia will linger until the end of this month. The National Flu Center of the World Health Organization is monitoring cold and flu situation in 46 cities of Russia all the year round and exchanges virus samples and screening results with the WHO Geneva headquarters. |

Russia has about the same number of death from Flu as US each year. Why would they report the First case of Flu death but from BF? And why WHO monitor 46
Russian cities? Why Why Why Doesn’t make any sense unless they are looking for Possible BF pandemic cases It’s means that BF is H2H and thy just monitoring the situation for wider spread of the disease. |

I would say that if he had "immune deficiency" he could have died from other serious forms of influenza... We used to work with SCID's mice and it does not take much to kill them.
I am supsect however of tests results... if they did not test accurately they would get a false negative.

It's not unusual for Russia to have a flu death, and I am sure that with their proximity to China and India, they are very nervous. If a serum test did not pick up H5N1, thats very good. The Russian maskmanal system has developed quite a lot in the past decade. Them I would trust. Chinese...nope.

Good work nbr 7- Members looking for information tht is below the radar
can paint a good picture. It is very strange that they stated it was the first annual flu victim, when they stated several months back during the very cold spell that several had developed the flu and had died, very strange. Very good post indeed.

left field, It did not say... it could be any number of immune disorders such as SCID, IgA deficiency, CVID, DiGeorge Syndrome, etc.
Virus's have been implicated in possibly triggering Acquired IgA deficiency & CVID http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/2002/07_02/dube.htm
"Besides primary immunodeficiency disorders, other conditions can lead to recurrent infections as they compromise the body's defense system
