"The Times and AP reported that Trump was briefed on the intelligence assessment. According to the Times, the briefing took place in late March."

If found to be true, Trump can't come back from this one.  Trump has given different answers when questioned by the press which means it is likely true.

National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said late Monday that President Trump had not been briefed on reports that Russia was paying Taliban militants to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and issued a rare public warning to government officials about classified leaks.

“Over the past several days, the New York Times and other news outlets have reported on allegations regarding our troops in Afghanistan,” O’Brien said in a statement. “While we do not normally discuss such matters, we constantly evaluate intelligence reports and brief the president as necessary. Because the allegations in recent press articles have not been verified or substantiated by the intelligence community, President Trump had not been briefed on the items.”

Swallow, rinse, regurgitate.

*Edited to add*  How would O'Brien know what Trump was briefed on in March 2019?
