Being new, please bear with me! I know from experience that you might need oral sponges for someone too sick to swallow (to keep their lips and the inside of their mouth moist). Also applesauce or pudding for giving crushed medications. Adult and childrens disposable diapers for those too sick to use a bedpan. You might also want to add waterproof pads to your list. "Hope I did this right".

Great ideas Grammajo!  I was already stocking jars of applesauce & snakc packs of pudding because the kids like it but I love your idea for using them to help take meds.  Please tell me more about the oral sponges though.  I've never heard of those.  I have been stocking chapstick/lip balm to sooth dry lips when sick.  Cornstarch powder for chafing in those crease areas (and general comfort for back & abdomen) if bedridden for any length of time.  Keeps everything from sticking to you.  LOTS of rubbing alcohol to clean things (hair combs, thermometers, any non-porous surface) and as a rub for sore muscles.  Cotton balls/pads to apply the rubbing alcohol.

Thank you for the new add-tos for my list. As for the oral sponges, I cared for my mom at home in her last days and the oral sponges were a blessing. She was unable to eat or drink for 4 days so we kept her mouth moistened for her using the sponges with water or a mild mouthwash. You can also buy the sponges with glycerine for cracked lips. We used Vaseline intensive care lotion to help prevent skin breakdown. Also have to remember to change patients position every 4 hours to prevent bed sores.

Go to the thrift stores for diapers, chucks, and I have also have used the chucks which are what you put under a bed ridden person to asborb urine and other fluids, in case someone doesn't know what chucks are.  They always have them, and they might only have been on or two that have been taken out, they are perfect and I got fiftry for two dollars.

Pegasus, I also used the mouth swabs for my mom in her last days and they were helpful.  Hospice used gingerale with them.  I plan on getting an eye dropper to get fluids in too -- even if it takes hours.  Pam
