Not sure if it is just me, but it feels like the tidal wave of crap justg is hitting right now. How is teveryone else managing?

13 year old step daughter last night “so my friend and her brother just tested positive and I’ve been with her every day this week and we were talking without masks on. Oh and she has had a runny nose and cough and fever for the last two days. I didn’t notice her coughing, sorry.”

Meanwhile, she is not realizing how big of a wrench this throws in to Christmas. Like she may be isolated in her room for Christmas. Like my husband and I are high risk, and while we just were boosted on this past Monday, obviously we aren’t fully protected yet, if at all from omicron.

Her mom and step dad had COVID 3 weeks ago, and doesn’t want her there because “they could be reinfected” meanwhile we haven’t been in a restaurant since April of 2020, and they have been going places the entire time.

Oh and my senior parents (mom has diabetes and dad has kidney disease, CHF) face timed with me yesterday in a store WITHOUT MASKS ON!

Oh and my brother (who is the only one seeming to take things as seriously as I am) had to travel to work and was exposed to someone who tested positive.

I am so frustrated and angry and sad that after all this time of preaching to everyone the risks and how to minimize them, all the proverbial crap is hitting all at once.

And to add insult to injury, I’m getting COVID arm for the third time.

Sorry to bellyache like a baby, and I sure know things could be worse. My heart breaks for those who have sick loved ones right now or have lost loved ones, and those whose lives have been forever impacted by all of the terrible natural disasters lately or gun violence and it makes me feel like a giant child to complain. But it just is hard right now.

Be safe everyone, don’t let your guard down for even a moment, because we all know it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

I'm sorry that you find yourself in this mess but if it's any consolation, you're not alone SheriAnn. My cousin in the UK is in exactly the same boat as you, her daughter's best friend who she's sees every day, yesterday announced that she has Covid and so does her brother, and my cousins daughter was due to go for a sleepover that very night. Obviously that didn't happen. But now my cousin is wondering if they've all been exposed, she's always giving this girl a lift in her car, and they are due to spend Christmas with her elderly parents. It's a complete nightmare.

I'm sure this situation is repeating itself in a million homes all over the world. I don't know what to suggest to you. What my cousin as decided to do is to play it by ear and to explain it to her parents that unless they all feel fine on christmas morning and return a negative test, they won't be coming round and will have to cancel at the last minute. They all had Covid in September and still haven't properly recovered from it, so she's dreading that it could all happen again.

There's no getting around it, it's all crap. There is no easy solution. I saw the UK government announce about 3 days ago that if you test positive from that day onwards, it would mean you'd miss Christmas as you'd have to self isolate at home for 10 days.

Personally I think millions of people will get it between now and Christmas. Estimates in the UK are that the numbers are doubling every 1.9 days. It's incredible. It's now in my district in NZ. We're off to a BBQ this afternoon and it's fingers crossed that it hasn't reached our backwood yet.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it! I don’t wish this at all on anyone, but it is slightly comforting to know that we are all in the same boat somewhat.

That’s been our plan as well, rest 3-5 days from now. I read that if you test negative at least five days after exposure you only need to isolate for 7 days if you have no symptoms. Everything is up in the air right now, and I just didn’t have anyone to vent to. So thank you for responding, it really means a lot.

Looking on the brighter side of a bad situation, I saw an article in the press yesterday where the writer was saying that she had a turkey big enough to feed 14 people who are all due to be coming to hers on Christmas day, and now she was expecting them to start dropping like flies and she was faced with the prospect of eating turkey for the following 2 weeks in an effort not to waste it. I think we've got to laugh or else we'll cry.

I really hope you have a happy Christmas SheriAnn and that your step daughter recovers quickly and you and your hubby escape unscathed.

I think everyone is struggling, worried and scared in there own way. The problem is everyone deals with things differently. I try to be as understanding as I can but things can and do seem unfair.. It doesn't help this time of year too.

I wish yous all the very best SheriAnn, Merry Christmas 🙏

It all sucks. You are not alone in your feelings.  And I'm really sorry you are dealing with so much suckiness.

I have "we are invulnerable" family coming here for Christmas. Staying in hotels along the way and while here, and they see ZERO risk in doing that. (and eating out, etc.)

I suggested using a HEPA purifier in the hotel rooms "We know every place we're staying. They are totally fine for us. Don't need an air filter. Made it through the cruise and several places in Hawaii...maybe we are super with the booster "

Me: THAT WAS BEFORE OMICRON!

Them:

You can't fix stupid.

(Yes, I'm reconsidering spending time with them)

SheriAnn,

First let me offer my deep sense of sorrow to you.  I am in houston texas with IV's and pain killers, having gotten covid 2 times now. My wonderful help did not practice proper infection control one time AND now i have covid again.  Now, while not in your boat, I offer support to you.  i know it is very hard to deal with kids who have no concept of covid.  Becky's adorable 8 year old is the suspect who was tested for covid and turned up positive.  He is very upset that he faied to follow the rules on being around us.  We said to him, it's ok. We will get better.  I hope that you won't be angry at your child.  It 's really hard on Becky to deal with her child potentially being the culprit.   I don't think that acceptable to be angry at a child like that.  Jill, Becky and the rest of the team accept responsibility for the act.  So, I am going to be laid up for awhile longer.  I have plenty of models to build and lots of pretty nurses to take care of me.   Vicki is safe and is in the same unit as I am.  We  are praying for you.

ME163, Vicki Jill and Becky and the wonderful staff at the ICU

Kids are the main spreaders here too ME163. Obviously it's not their fault.. I guess home education is gonna be a big thing in the future.

I'm glad to hear you are getting great care. Wishing yous all the best 🙏

Thank you all, and Merry Christmas to you all as well! ME163, I pray for a swift recovery for you, I know you’ve suffered greatly from this terrible virus.

So far we are all healthy, negative rapid test for my step daughter, and my brother, no fevers, no symptoms so far. I am so thankful we are boosted, and even though I hate needles and cry every time I get a shot, I would get 100 more to be protected. My father in law nearly lost his life in April, and I keep trying to tell my mother in law it seems that prior infection is not going to be enough to protect them now, and this last time she didn’t even respond to me. It makes my heart hurt, but people will make their own decisions, I suppose

I hope you all have a very happy Christmas!
