They also had problems with Care Homes (as have many countries).

The BBC article below highlights one ethical dilemma regarding "hospice/palliative" care and the  use or non-use of oxygen.   Sweden like many western countries tried to "ring fence" the elderly who were in care homes, but failed to deliver in time (again like most countries) the protective equipment that was needed to keep the old folks safe.

What's going wrong in Sweden's care homes?

According to WHO data dates 18th May 2020 The mortality rates (ie deaths per million population) for Sweden and its neighbouring countries is

Sweden            357

Norway              43

Finland               54

Denmark             94

This data leads me to the view that a lock-down was a good move, and provided a significant saving in lives.

I am open to change my mind if the data, after opening up, shows other countries closing in on where Sweden is at - but at present the data does not show that Sweden's approach was the best.   Hind-sight (20-20!) is wonderful, and while I do not think Sweden went the best way, I can see their reasons and so can not condemn that approach.  But we must learn lessons, and I think that a major one is that Care Homes should have received the same support that hospitals did.

That's the most important thing,we MUST LEARN from this.....

Most of our deaths here  have been people in care homes....

I hear in the North of England, the homes there are in Big trouble,

Going Bankrupt because of  all the extra care they are having to do,

Government not helping..........

"Well they only old people anyway".....

I guess that's the thinking there.....

Collateral damage....

Sad.....someones loved Ones

Herd immunity policies will work eventually, but the cost of human lives is clearly evident.  Thanks for posting the "per 100,000" stats, Edwin.  It gives a better picture rather than raw numbers.  What's AFT's motto again?  You can't fix stupid!
