BASEL (AFX) - 2006/02/01 -Roche Holding AG
said that so far, over 60 governments have placed orders for Tamiflu -- seen as a first-line treatment in the event of a bird flu-pandemic -- roughly covering 25-40 pct of the global population. Recent efforts by the group to increase production capacity have resulted in Tamiflu output expanding by ten times compared with the 2002 level, said William Burns, CEO of Roche Pharma. Burns said Roche will continue to work with governments to stockpile the drug. Roche CEO Franz Humer said earlier today that sales growth in the second half is likely to be stronger than in the first, driven by a significant increase in Tamiflu sales. Humer said the increase would reflect capacity expansion but also the way governments have placed their orders, to obtain the drug prior to the next flu season. Regarding cancer treatment MabThera/Rituxan, another of the group's growth drivers, Burns said peak sales expectations have been raised to 5.5 bln sfr, from 4.5 bln previously. afx.zurich@afxnews.com at/jsa http://www.iii.co.uk/news/? type=afxnews&articleid=5539300&subject=economic&action=artic le (cut & past URL manually) Edited by Rick |
