A senior person in the UK has talked of up to ten more years of this.   Another prediction is that soon the Kent (UK) variant might be dominant world wide.

Originally posted by "BBC" "BBC" wrote:

The coronavirus variant first found in Kent could become the world's dominant strain, the head of the UK's genetic surveillance programme has predicted.

Prof Sharon Peacock told the BBC's Newscast podcast the new variant has "swept the country" and "it's going to sweep the world, in all probability".

............

Prof Peacock, director of the Covid-19 Genomics UK consortium, said: "What's really affected us at the moment is transmissibility."

She added: "Once we get on top of [the virus] or it mutates itself out of being virulent - causing disease - then we can stop worrying about it. But I think, looking in the future, we're going to be doing this for years. We're still going to be doing this 10 years down the line, in my view."

Is she being optimistic that it will be the Kent variant not the South African variant that sweeps the globe?

Could we survive ten years more?

When I tell people I know, that this will not be over for years they think I'm mentally ill,

I'm a realist,

I see , lots of people not being able to cope with this ,I see lots of people not able to process what's happening,

Jacksdad said a while ago,

we on here when we talk about  slate wiper we think in weeks aka the movies where people turn into the walking dead all most immediately,we not expecting the

"slow burn"

We even have peeps on here not really able to process things......

It's not going to get any better soon ,even now ,as cases drop everyone wants to open up......

You can see what's going to happen.....

If you a lateral thinker.......

Mind it's not rocket science......

Its virology.......

Take care all πŸ˜·πŸ˜‰

DJ http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2021/02/more-extreme-weather.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2021/02/more-extreme-weather.html When you include climate collapse into the scenario we do not have ten years...

Lots of similarities in how many countries show inaction in both climate collapse and this pandemic. Also how MSM is putting out more non-sense..we do have cold weather in NL but "weather" and "climate"are two different-related-things...seems to be asking to much of "journalists"...

We have to fix stupid-or we are dead !

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

One of my small claims to fame is in 2010 I co-edited a 16 page pamphlet regarding the Arctic methane threat with Sam Carana that was distributed at the annual AGU meeting. My wife and I took the evidence to heart, bought a rundown cabin and a few acres on a remote island in Southeast Alaska that same year. We have been working on it almost literally every day since like the devil is behind us.  I agree, we don't have 10 years with climate disruption.

We don't have 10 years in the face of global oil production either. Oil production peaked in November, 2018. The annual decline rate is 6%. The exponential function will tell you that production declines 50% (barring geopolitical causes) by 2030. The current set of living arrangements can't survive that. The collapse of the biosphere and decline of energy is being hidden in the fog of politics and war. Trust me, there will be geopolitical causes that disrupt oil production.

Yes, Carbon, this is why I take great exception to the characterizing of this virus as a powder puff.

ME, lol!

Andy, about 10 years ago I remember listening to Thom Hartmann and he talked about "The Last Days of Ancient Sunshine".  I believe that is what you are talking about.

I am the DZ Queen, and I approve this message.

I think it's the Brazilian variant we've got to watch out for. It's reinfecting people who've had the original version.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

I remember  reading 30 odd years ago about melting permafrost in  Alaska, hope your house is on hard rock......lol

As regards  CC

Told a young lady of 21 to move to Tasmania, New Zealand  is also a good refuge from CC,

I read a number of years ago that the   Chinese  need to move 500 million  people  from about 10°/20° either side of the equator because it  will become  unlivable, same longitude  encompasses  the Mediterranean  ,

think on that !!!!!!!

Only a slate wiper will mitigate what we have done to the Earth.....

Times up.....

Take care all.......

We are in the banana belt. No permafrost, quite the opposite  . . . .we have over 180 frost free days, growing zone 7b.  On the ocean in the only area in the U.S. where the sea level is dropping.
