Could you collect water in a rain barrel and then use a water purifier to drink the water ? Also, can you store tap water ? I dont see why you could not use tap water and store it. I am looking at water purifiers in case the h2o is missing.
Does anybody have any rain barrel comments ? |

No reason why a rainbarrel couldn't be used for potable water. Just strain and boil, or add clorox. Cisterns and rain barrels have a long history of use.
Tap water can certainly be stored. Add 8 drops of clorox (unscented bleach) per gallon. I've bought up a bunch of those collapseable 5 gal water jugs from Walmart. Easy to store now, expand when filled with water. About $5 apiece. |

I bought some of those collapsable bottles from walmart as well and they are more trouble than they are worth. I filled one to test it and, sure enough, it leaked some. Was also difficult to move. All in all, if you have it right by a sink, it's probably OK, but not, if you want to fill and store it. However, Walmart has tall, plastic, green containers in the sporting goods section for about $6 which work great. Another option, once summer merchandise gets shipped in, are the blow-up swimming pools. Not suitable for apartments or condo's, but work well for anybody who has a small yard. I'd be interested in hearing other people's idea's for water storage. TIA
