It looked to me as if the WHO might have been backing off from convening their panel to consider changing the pandemic alert level; this suggests otherwise...
I hope the link works; it's the Washington Post home page, in any case, and a prominent story. From my seat, it looks like we've met the criteria for level four described in the WHO's own guidelines, but they don't ask me...

I saw that, plus I wonder when the U.S. will raise our our level from 0 to 1. I realize that it has a lot of social and economic consequences, however, each person in this country needs to get themselves ready.

In my opinion, there is just too much politics involving the WHO. It makes my head hurt to think about it.....

It is, Sherrie. There's apparently some discussion of moving it to 4, however.

The world is on Stage 3. We in the U.S. had to come up with our own stages. It keeps us in control. (LOL) WE
are on stage 0. Nothing to worry about. |

Ok why arent there stockpiles being shipped to Indo..YESTERDAY.
And also if they raise the level then there are several more cases, all significant that they are discussing as well; not the least of which the 2 siblings who just died of BF which WHO hasnt even verified.

PonyGirl, I believe I did read something about a shipment of Tamiflu to "Asia" a couple of days ago, and if I were to guess I might say it was headed to Indonesia.
I don't understand how raising the level would mean several more cases, though. Do you mean that if it rises to level 4, they're required to assume these cases are H5N1?

According to an Associated Press article that FINALLY appeared in our city's newspaper today, "Tamiflu is being given as a precaution to those who may have come in conctact with the family of eight in Indonesia."
